These caveats noted, there are several areas that deserve special attention, where analyses and social-cultural factors and sources of influence need to be better understood. How are we to understand minority and ethnic differences in decreased medication use, above and beyond their likelihood of use of medications for other conditions While these analyses have not yet been confirmed across a wide range of data sets, such findings are provocative, and may warrant more systematic studies of atttitudes, barriers, and stigma within some minority communities. If such findings are confirmed in other statewide and national medication data bases, more in-depth studies of specific minority populations seem warranted. 

Vulnerability A matrix of physical, chemical, biological, social, and cultural factors that result in certain communities and subpopulations being more susceptible to environmental factors because of greater exposure to such factors or a compromised ability to cope with and/or recover from such exposure. Four types of vulnerability are considered with regard to a life stage approach susceptibility or sensitivity, differential exposure, differential preparedness, and differential ability to recover. 

In places where the mode of garbage collection is different from traditional curb-side pickup, the most effective recycling program design will also differ. Cultural factors such as respect for authority and willingness to abide by community expectations are also important. 

Critique psychological and related educational research and therapeutic models in relation to cultural factors and biases as they have impacted minority communities. 

Cells communicate with each other in order to form and maintain the vertebrate body. Cells must know when and where to move, and what to do once they get there. This is accomplished by sending and receiving chemical, tactile, and perhaps even electrical signals (Cooper and Schliwa, 1986). Cells can be observed responding to at least some of these environmental cues in tissue culture, and also responding to each other. The response of cells to these factors is known as cell behavior. 

Laboratory tests on samples exposed to actual plant liquids or simulated environments should be done only when testing in the actual operating environment cannot be done. When MIC is a factor in the test, microbial communities from the actual environment of interest must be used. Pure cultures of single types of microbes cannot provide conditions present in the actual operating environment. 

Non-compliance issues appear more prevalent in some non-Western cultures. One study in South Africa revealed non-compliance rates to oral neuroleptics in two-thirds of Black patients and one-half of colored patients compared to only one-quarter of Caucasians (Gillis.Trollip, Jakoet etal., 1987). Cultural and communication factors were considered to be significant barriers apart from those related to cost and social factors. Kinzie et al.
