Communication barrier

When individuals from several disciplines try to address a common problem, how do they communicate with each other and what process do they select for their paradigm If each individual believes that their paradigm is the only one to use and that every one must use that nomenclature and process, major confrontations can arise. If there is a dominate personality that forces everyone on the team to learn the leaders paradigm, language, and process, then a learning period of several years may be required before the team can be effective. An alternative is to create a compromise language acceptable to the team, but this can create a communication barrier between the team and the traditional disciplines. 

The team members trained together. As a part of their certification process they were asked to work as a team to address comments received on the draft guidance. Two assignments, a PAT inspection and pre-operational site visit, have been successfully completed by this team. Several team members have participated in a number of scientific conferences. The feedback received from their instructors, conference participants and companies has been very positive. The many organizational and communication barriers that existed at the beginning of the initiative are being removed and the team members are functioning as a team committed to a common purpose.

The formalisation and standardization of terms and procedures in the field of quality management should promote the development of a common marketing area and cross boundary goods traffic. The idea of eliminating trade and communication barriers is the driving force behind these activities which, however, often aim at adhering only to certain formal mles. In all this, however, the essential aspects, i.e. which technical conditions have to be actually fulfilled, must not be forgotten.

The ADA makes it unlawful for public accommodations not to remove architectural and communication barriers from existing facilities or transportation barriers from vehicles where such removal is readily achievable. Because the potential for error or surprise exists in many organizational activities... information that could constitute error signals must be widely available through communication nets that can cut across departments and hierarchical levels. Communication barriers or blockages can pose a threat to feedback, evidence accumulation, and the sharing of cautionary concerns. 

Blind workers need orientation information when getting to work. So it is suggested to make available, in a strategic place in the company, a tactile map that make the process of planning the route for any job post easier. This is the exit of the system. The obstacles during the route in the work environment are considered restrictions of the system. They are physical, architectonic, informational and communicational barriers.
