Commitment promoting

With regard to innovation processes the significance and the direct effectiveness of individual committed promoters or blockers with their individual motives such as profit or occupational health and safety, consumer protection or environmental protection should, however, not be overestimated. Although committed promoters do play an important part in most substitution processes, a closer look at the individual case samples very quickly reveals their structural futility. Complex innovative processes cannot be moved by a limited number of actors or even by individuals alone. Many substitution processes simply do not progress, despite the fact that we cannot observe any definite opponents . These innovations are not impeded, they only become stuck, as the inertia of the system is simply too high. In order to gain an appropriate comprehension of the ability (and not just the... [Pg.6]

These efforts are undertaken under the auspices of the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), which is organized to provide an opportunity for tripartite... [Pg.714]

The conditioning of the CD34+ cells as analyzed by colony assays in methylcellulose revealed that membrane-bound SCF mainly supports the maintenance of multipotent and bipotent progenitors. The number of CFU-GM and CFU-GEMM constituted 32% of total colony-forming cells after one week and 52% after two weeks in coculture. In contrast, the proportion of multipotent progenitors in cocultures induced by SI SCF are 4-fold lower after three weeks in culture (Table 2), but the contents of erythroid colonies (BFU-e s) increased 1.5-fold at the same time point. The results indicate that soluble SI SCF promotes more committed cells than membrane-bound SCF. Mature myeloid colonies increased about 1.5-fold in contrast to CFU-C derived from membrane-bound SCF expressing cultures (Friel et al, 2002). [Pg.28]

In the summer of 1982, after devoting a year to her home care, he lost his wife, Mary Elma, to cancer. His marriage to Mary Elma had been such a mainstay of his life that he was committed to the institution of matrimony. Within the year he fell in love with and married Anne Parker Gill, of Swarthmore, PA, thus expanding his family to include the growing families of her two sons. Bill and Doug, to whom he devoted much time in his later years. Within the next few years, he and Anne visited the USSR, invited by the Soviet Peace Committee to promote the World Federalists Association position, and China, invited by Academia Sinica. His five children, Patricia (b. 1938), Susanna (b. 1940), Sarah Shoemaker (Sally, b. 1944), Judith Spencer (b. 1946) and Charles Coale IV (b. 1948) were a source of much pride and pleasure to him. [Pg.288]

The advance has two major purposes. One is obviously to ensure that the author gets a certain amount of money. Often, an author never gets a dime more than his advance. A second purpose is to ensure that publishers devote some effort to promoting the book so they can at least get back their advance money. A significant advance would seem to guarantee a certain level of commitment to the book. Dean Koontz has noted that publishers push hard with advertising and promotion only on those books on which they were at risk of losing money. [Pg.174]
