Coloring of paper pulp is a problem which requires further study. As mentioned previously, most coloring agents used in commercial paper manufacture are easily faded by light. Many cannot be used under conditions of neutral pH. Those conservators fortunate enough to have... [Pg.97]

Many common metallic impurities in paper, particularly compounds of some of the transition metals, contribute to degradation of cellulose by hydrolytic or oxidative reactions. The more important in commercial papers are iron and copper compounds, whereas some others such as magnesium compounds have been observed to exert protective effects (7). It is clearly desirable that the content of undesired metallic ions be kept low in permanent papers. Titanium dioxide, commonly used as a filler, has been observed to promote degradation by photochemical reactions. The predictive potential of metallic content in relation to permanence, however, does not allow the setting of permissible limits at the present time. [Pg.282]

Most commercial papers contain a variety of components which modify the basic sheet of fibers. Sizing materials, fillers, and dyes are commonly present. Many papers (including book papers) are coated the composition of a coating formulation is complex and usually includes a number of supplementary substances. Many other additives are introduced into paper for specific purposes. When the presence of the many additives in paper is considered, and it is realized that most papermaking raw materials are commercial products containing by-products and im-... [Pg.282]

Adequate sampling and replication are required to account for paper variability this is particularly true with commercial papers containing sheets from more than one roll within a ream. [Pg.290]

One project that continued throughout the life of the new laboratory was called Effect of Temperature. For this study, five production runs of paper were made in two different mills producing a total of thirteen papers. Seven of these have been tested extensively as were three commercial papers. [Pg.50]

The pH range of magnesium bicarbonate solutions is quite broad, and extends from about 6.4 to about 9.5. As the chemistry of the deacidification process probably depends, to some extent, on the pH of the solution, this, plus the uncertainty of the composition of commercial paper samples, may explain some of the differences in results from one laboratory to another. One also must remember that about twenty possible chemical modifications of the anhydroglucose ring in cellulose may be written down. [Pg.91]

FILTRATION — is Subduction by Filtration in a Colander but this process in the chymical filter may be also called Straining, or Percolation it is performed chiefly in operation upon moist substances, from which the aqueous part passes through the colander, and those which are oily or thick are left behind. The practice is principally this. A sheet of commercial paper [carte emporetica], or a rough basket, is shaped into the form of a bag, or applied to the vessel, after the manner of a funnel, etc. The infused liquid passes out by degrees, to be distilled into its receptacle, whence this operation is called Distillation by the Colander. Or ... [Pg.133]

For a discussion of the relative costs involved in the different markets, see Steven Pearlstein Jerry Knight, Banks Lose Out Ts Depositors Go Elsewhere Many Options Available for Saving, Borrowing, Investing, Wash. Post, Aug. 22, 1993, at Al Mitchell A. Post, The Evolution of The U.S. Commercial Paper Market Since 1980, 78 Fed. Res. Bull. 879 (1992). Capital market rates are usually lower because the large number of investors, as well as the free transferability of the securities, act as inherent risk spreaders. [Pg.7]

Multiseller securitization conduits typically issue short term commercial paper or medium term notes in the capital markets to fund their purchases of receivables from originators. See, e.g.. Corporate Asset Funding Co., Inc., Fitch Investors Service, Structured Finance, New Issue, June 15,1992, at 81 (discussing Corporate Asset Funding Co., Inc. s 7 billion commercial paper and medium term note program) Mark H. Adelson, Asset-Backed Commercial Paper Understanding the Risks, Moody s Investors Service, Structured Finance, Special Report, Apr. 1993. [Pg.10]

Rating agencies usually require, however, that entities providing liquidity facilities have short term debt ratings at least equal to the ratings of the conduit s commercial paper. [Pg.11]

Dynamic Sorption of Ink Jet Ink Drops on Commercial Papers. Drying times (t ) and various parameters measured or derived from contact line spreading, profile development and penetration data for the various systems studied are summarized in Table I. A wide variation occured in the values of tj among the various papers studied. The maximum deviations in tdetailed contact line and profile analysis suggest that these deviations result from the structural variability in paper rather than drop-to-drop volume variations. This was substantiated by the marked variations in the final image shape observed among several drops printed on the same paper sample. [Pg.441]

Made as Q-30E except for the special washing. This pulp is used in regular commercial papers such as bag stock. [Pg.500]

Centrifugal Former. The use of a centrifugal former allows for the preparation of a sheet of paper that posseses a fiber orientation similar to the orientation present in commercial papers. With this apparatus, the fiber suspension is sprayed onto a fast rotating screen. The dynamic motion of the screen mimics the moving wire of the Fourdrinier machine and induces fiber orientation. In addition, by independently varying the flow of the fiber suspension and the speed of rotation of the screen, different degrees of fiber orientation can be obtained. [Pg.501]

Stockholders and lenders. The public firm receives savings from individuals as well as pension and insurance funds to invest. In return, the stockholder receives dividends or interest and stock appreciation. The government firm can return a surplus to the government treasury or perhaps constitute a burden to taxpayers. If the firm did not exist, this capital would be invested elsewhere, perhaps in home mortgages, municipal bonds, commercial paper, or government securities. [Pg.35]

Surprisingly, the association between TPS and cellulose fibres (polysaccharide-based composites) has been little analysed. In the literature, cellulose fillers used in association with a plasticized starch matrix are commercial paper fibres,10 potato pulp microfibrils,11 12 tunicin whiskers and paper bleached pulp.13-14 The literature reports that these cellulose fillers improve the tensile strength. Besides, the composite water sorption seems to be decreased. This behaviour is related to the well known lower water uptake of cellulose compared to starch.10-14... [Pg.254]
