A polyester-type fluorescent resin matrix (22) is made by heating trimellitic anhydride, propylene glycol, and phthaUc anhydride with catalytic amounts of sulfuric acid. Addition of Rhodamine BDC gives a bright bluish red fluorescent pigment soluble in DME and methanol. It has a softening point of 118°C. Exceptional heat resistance and color brilliance are claimed for products of this type, which are useful for coloring plastics. [Pg.301]

Annatto extract is sold ia several physical forms, including dry powders, propylene glycol/monoglyceride emulsions, oil solutions and suspensions, and alkaline aqueous solutions containing anywhere from 0.1—30% active colorant calculated as bixia, norhixin, as appropriate. It... [Pg.448]

Deodorant and cologne sticks are formed by allowing sodium stearate to gel in a suitable organic solvent, usually ethanol or propylene glycol. The soap and the solvent are heated under reflux until the soap is dissolved. The solution is cooled to about 60°C fragrance, color, and the like are added and the mass is placed into suitable containers. [Pg.294]

KOMAROWSKY REACTION. The reaction between certain alcohols and p-hytlroxybenzaldehyde in dilute sulfuric acid solutions to give soluble colored complexes. 1.2-Propylene glycol gives a colored product while ethylene glycol does not. The reaction has also hecn employed to determine eychthexanol in cyclohexanone. [Pg.904]

Hops Oil occurs as a light yellow to green-yellow liquid with a characteristic, aromatic odor. Age darkens the color, and the oil tends to become viscous. It is the volatile oil obtained by steam distillation of the freshly dried membranous cones of the female plants of Humulus lupulus L. or Humulus ameri-canus Nutt. (Fam. Moraceae). It is soluble in most fixed oils and, sometimes with opalescence, in mineral oil. It is practically insoluble in glycerin and in propylene glycol. [Pg.218]
