Code 8603 glass-ceramics

The low-expansion spodumene-eucryptite glass-ceramics are manufactured under the trade mark Pyroceram (with a numerical code), Cer-Vit, Hercuvit (USA), Sitall with a numerical code (USSR), Heatron, Neoceram, Miraclon (Japan), Jena 2000 Zerodur (FRG). [Pg.332]

The technical importance of glass ceramics, produced under different trade names by various glass companies, was already mentioned in 2.9. With the code number 7971 Corning [61] developed an ultra low expansion titanium silicate glass, manufactured by flame hydrolysis. This glass, called ULE, is formed as large boules, typically 1.5 m in diameter by 0.15 m in thickness, from which virtually any size product can be fabricated using a variety of techniques. Both materials have a thermal expansion of even less than 0.2.1 O 7 K, 1 and are transparent between 0.5 and 2.3pm. [Pg.32]

The predominant phase with somewhat rounded grains is cordierite and the angular, needle-shaped crystals are magnesium aluminum titanate. (From Ref. 85.)... Lined vessels are used for many applications. Any type of lining can be used in an ASME Code vessel, provided it is compatible with the metal of the vessel and the contents. Glass, rubber, plastics, rare metals, and ceramics are a few types. The hning may be installed separately, or if a metal is used, it may be in the rorm of clad plate. The cladding on plate can sometimes be considered as a stress-carrying part of the vessel. [Pg.1028]

The discrete ordinates method in a S4-approximation is used to solve the radiation transport equation. Since the intensity of radiation depends on absorption, emission and scattering characteristics of the medium passed through, a detailed representation of the radiative properties of a gas mixture would be very complex and currently beyond the scope of a 3D-code for the simulation of industrial combustion systems. Thus, contributing to the numerical efficiency, some simplifications are introduced, even at the loss of some accuracy. The absorption coefficient of the gas phase is assumed to have a constant value of 0.2/m. The wall emissivity was set to 0.65 for the ceramic walls and to a value of 0.15 for the glass pane inserted in one side wall for optical access. [Pg.666]
