Coating machines

Stitchbonded fabrics ate used in home furnishings, footwear, filtration, packaging, and coating. Machine widths ate in the 2-m range fabric weights range from about 75—250 g/m. A variation of stitchbonding is used to make multiaxial-layeted yam and yam-and-sheet stmctures for composite material reinforcement substrates. 

As with ah thin-film PV technologies, the projected manufacturing costs of a-Si H ahoy PV modules fah rapidly with annual manufacturing volume, ie, MWp /yr. The primary driver of this volume cost reduction is the volume—cost relationship of commercially available thin-film processing equipment. However, most coating machines are required to produce many different products and coating thickness and the machine is therefore usually a compromise for several appHcations. Table 1 describes the capabdities of some of the principal coating processes.

The inherent complexities of this process are well illustrated by the process operational boundaries highlighted in Figure 3. Although this diagram specifically references tablet coating in a side-vented pan, the concepts are applicable to the film coating of all types of products in a wide variety of coating machines. 

Other types of equipment that can yield even higher efficiency values are roller and flow coating machines (90 to 98%) and electrocoating systems (90 to 99%). Roller and flow coating machines, however, are limited in their applicability based on the shape of the parts. Electrocoating systems require a shift from solvent-based to waterbased paint. 

In Chapter 10, the use of membranes for different applications are described. One of the possible membranes for hydrogen cleaning is an asymmetric membrane comprised of the dense end of a proton conduction perovskite such as BaCe0 95 Yb0 05O3 5 and a porous end to bring mechanical stability to the membrane. In this case, it is possible to take from the slurry, obtained by the acetate procedure, several drops to be released over a porous ceramic membrane, located in the spinning bar of a spin-coating machine. Thereafter, the assembly powder, thin film porous membrane is heated from room temperature up to 1573 K at a rate of 2K/min, kept at this temperature for 12 h, and then cooled at the same rate in order to get the perovskite end film over the porous membrane [50],... 

In order to remove the reaction by-products and other impurities the as-prepared nanociystals were precipitated by the addition of non-solvent (typically, 2-Propanol) and redissolved in pure water. Indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass slides (13 Ohm/cm thickness of ITO layer of 125 nm, unpolished, Merck) were used as substrates for LbL assembly and as transparent positive electrodes.
