Enzymatic polymerizations have been established as a promising and versatile technique in the synthetic toolbox of polymer chemists. The applicability of this technique for homo- and copolymerizations has been known for some time. With the increasing number of reports on the synthesis of more complex structures like block copolymers, graft copolymers, chiral (co)polymers, and chiral crosslinked nanoparticles, its potential further increases. Although not a controlled polymerization technique itself, clever reaction design and integration with other polymerization techniques like controlled radical polymerization allows the procurement of well-defined polymer structures. Specific unique attributes of the enzyme can be applied... [Pg.110]

There is room for improvement of the plant- specific models and processing recipes for such high-pressure plants, where the focus will be on polymer aspects such as the interplay between the complex kinetics in copolymer chemistry and the composition and chainstructure in copolymers and/or in the blend, or the polarity of monomer, (co)polymers and solvents. [Pg.576]

Labelled monomers have been used in co-polymerizations for analysis of the resulting co-polymers and consequent determination of monomer reactivity ratios (15, 16). This technique is of particular value when the compositions of the different monomer units are rather similar or when the co-polymer contains only very small amounts of one of the monomers. These points can be appreciated by considering calculations on co-polymers of methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate summarized in Table 1. The analyses have been calculated ignoring contributions of end-groups it assumed that the acrylate ester is labelled with carbon-14 and that specific activities are expressed in units such as curies/g of carbon. [Pg.7]

Both enantiomeric forms of 2,3-di-O-benzoyltartaric acid were used as optically active templates. N,N -diethyl-4-vinylbenzamindine and a large excess of ethylene dimethacrylate were used as co-polymer and cross-linker. The MIP layers were exposed to different concentrations of the two antipodes in water. The interaction of the target analytes with the MIP layers was observed directly by RIfS [30]. In Fig. 12 the calibration functions for enantiomeric forms of the tartaric acids are shown. [Pg.335]

Several approaches towards the synthesis of hierarchical meso- and macro-porous materials have been described. For instance, a mixture that comprised a block co-polymer and polymer latex spheres was utilized to obtain large pore silicas with a bimodal pore size distribution [84]. Rather than pre-organizing latex spheres into an ordered structure they were instead mixed with block-copolymer precursor sols and the resulting structures were disordered. A similar approach that utilized a latex colloidal crystal template was used to assemble a macroporous crystal with amesoporous silica framework [67]. [Pg.61]

Karan et al. [10] reported glucose sensors using quinone modified poly-siloxane (Fig. 3.8a-A) and acrylonitrile-ethylene (Fig. 3.8a-B) co-polymers and glucose oxidase. Sensors constructed with glucose oxidase and quinone modified polysiloxane were considerably more efficient than those using acrylonitrile-ethylene system to transfer electrons from reduced glucose oxidase to a conventional carbon paste electrode. Their results coincide with those described previously for the ferrocene-modified polysiloxane system. The excellent flexibility of poly(siloxane) allows it to function as an efficient... [Pg.356]

Ethylene/propylene co-polymers and ethylene/propylene/diene terpolymers 1045... [Pg.1005]

Although a large share of the EP co-polymers and EPD terpolymers is still manufactured with vanadium-based catalysts at low temperature, metallocene catalysts have added a whole new dimension to EP co-polymerization, and to the range of material properties that can be achieved, as has been the case for the ethylene-based low-density copolymers discussed in the previous section. The subject of EP co-polymerization with group 4 bis(cyclopentadienyl) complexes has been reviewed in detail up to 1998.59... [Pg.1045]

The main drawback of the elastomeric co-polymers is their rather high Tg, which is always higher than LLDPE co-polymers and increases with the styrene content, reaching values above 0°C beyond 60wt% of styrene.624 In the styrene range of 20-50 mol%, the co-polymer can be either amorphous elastomeric or crystalline. This kind of crystallinity occurs when the E-S dyad is stereoregular.625 Ethylene/styrene co-poly-mers can act as compatibilizer for polyethylene-polystyrene blends. A review on ethylene/styrene co-polymer-ization has appeared.626... [Pg.1049]

Other complexes that have been used in ethylene-styrene co-polymerizations are 42, which is inactive in styrene homopolymerization but has been claimed to produce ethylene/styrene co-polymers with styrene content in the range 35-87 mol%.6 2 Living ethylene/styrene co-polymerization can be achieved using the MAO-activated complex 43. Although a relatively low amount of styrene was incorporated (about 10 mol%), NMR analysis indicated that trace amounts of pseudo-random tail-to-tail S-S or S-E-S sequences were observed.6 Marks and co-workers showed that bimetallic catalysts based on 44 can effectively yield ethylene/styrene co-polymers and, in contrast to the monometallic CGCs, styrene incorporation can be higher than 50%.664... [Pg.1051]

About 70% of PB production is used for the manufacturing of pipes for cold and hot water supply, and under-floor heating pipes. The remaining 30% of the production volume includes butene/ethylene random co-polymers and finds application in highly specialized and fragmented specialties markets, such as components in easy-peel films, process aids, and many others.878... [Pg.1078]
