Climatological data

Extracted from these comprehensive files for easier access, the compressed ASCII files Warnemuende daily.zip (1947-2006) and Scliwerin daily.zip (1890-2006) contain daily values of the particular weather station for temperature, humidity, precipitation, and air pressure. The monthly data 1948-2006 of coldsum.txt, heatsuml6.txt and heatsum20. txt are derived from the Warnemunde temperature series. They provide the area below the isotherm of O C and above the isotherms of 16°C and 20°C, measured in Kelvin x days (Nehring et al., 1990), see Chapters 4 and 5. 

The files arkona wind lh.zip and arkona wind 6h.zip have a plain ASCII format with the columns year, month, day, hour, speed, angle, xcomp, ycomp. Data were provided by the German Weather Service (DWD) for the periods 1951-1990 (6h readings) and 1991-2005 (1 h readings). 

The wind at Arkona is a suitable representative for the meteorological conditions during inflow events. Persistent storms from westerly or north-westerly directions are highly correlated with the Landsort level, that is the actual Baltic water volume, if the wind speed component, v(r), is convolved with a lowpass filter with 10 days exponential memory (Hagen and Eeistel, 2001), 

The decay time of 10 days is characteristic for the linear response of the Baltic fill level with respect to changes of the level in the Kattegat, resulting from the flow resistance of the narrow and shallow Danish Straits (Chapter 2.2.2). 

The files baltic sea cliinatology.zip and baltic sea wave atlas.zip contain climatic and wave conditions at the Baltic Sea surface. The file seastate dos program.zip is a DOS computer program for the computation of wave heights. The tools available for site selection include climatological data, topography, population data, emission inventory data, and diffusion modeling. Meteorological data were obtained from Local Climatological Data collected at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, 39 km SW of Warren. Upper air data were based on rawinsonde, constant pressure data collected twice daily at Flint, MI, 75 km NW of Warren. Molion (1975) employed climatological data (average charts of wind and specific humidity seasonal values) and the method of Penman (1963) to estimate that about 52% of the rain falling on the region was lost through the river. Similarly Villa Nova et al. (1976) applied Penman s method adapted to forested regions by Shiau and Davar (1973) and calculated that evaporation represented 54%, and 46% of rainfall was lost to the river.
