Climatology data sources

Various types of diffusion models are available which can use as input emission patterns, climatological data, and population data to rank sampling locations by concentration threshold, resolution of peak concentrations, and frequency of exposure (4) or to rank sampling locations for maximum sensitivity to source emission changes, to provide coverage of as many sources or to cover as large a geographic area as possible (5). 

The ice charts and ice edge products from ice charting agencies in the US, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Sweden and Japan also serve as data sources in the absence of direct satellite data. These charts are constructed by analysts trained in remote sensing imagery interpretation and sea ice climatology. Spati resolution of these charts is 4 km. Additional tables are furnished for the other stability classes. Note that calms have been distributed among the directions. Such joint frequency data can be used directly in climatological models such as the Climatological Dispersion Model (CDM) (1). The CDM calculates seasonal or annual concentrations at each receptor by considering sources in each wind sector... 

Importing climatological joint frequency wind summaries and population distribution data from standard external sources is allowed. This saves the user from having to input these large data matrices.
