Children testing

Data addressing long-term neurobehavioral sequelae after maternal use of APDs during pregnancy are limited. Comments on selected cases of children exposed in utero to phenothiazines did not reveal any behavioral difficulties (Kris, 1965). Slone and colleagues (1977) found no difference in IQ between phenothia-zine-exposed and unexposed children tested at 4 years of age. [Pg.646]

The regional poison centers certified by the American Association of Poison Control have reported 55 cases of metformin ingestion by children (128). Unintentional ingestion of 1700 mg of metformin did not pose health risks. In 21 children tested for blood glucose, lactate, or electrolytes, there was no evidence of lactic acidosis. Plasma metformin concentrations were not determined. [Pg.376]

Polytetrafluoroethylene has long been regarded as an essentially safe compound with no known health effects on humans or experimental animals. Recently, questions have been raised about possible health hazards of one of the compounds used in the manufacture of polytetrafluoroethylene, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Some studies suggest that PFOA may be responsible for birth defects and the development of cancer in people who have been exposed to the chemical. Other studies show that 96 percent of the children tested in 23 states and the District of Columbia in 2001 had detectable levels of PFOA in their blood. Federal... [Pg.606]

In Israeli children with suspected food allergies, sesame was one of the four most common allergens among those tested, with 30 of 234 children testing positive for sesame allergy. Of these 30,70% had an atopic background. Reactions to sesame were generally IgE-mediated (Aaronov et al. 2008 Dalai et al. 2003). [Pg.813]

Piper longum and Piper nigrum are conventionally used as immuno-enhancers in Indian system of medicine. The underlying mechanism however remains unknown. Pepper has been used in China as a folk remedy for epilepsy. Piperine has been identified by researchers as having anticonvulsant effects in animal models, and antiepilepsirine, a derivative of piperine, has been used in China to treat epilepsy since 1975. A clinical trial on epileptic children-tested antiepilepsirine (10 mg/kg two or three times a day) decreased the number of seizures in majority of subjects [84]. [Pg.4519]

Children tested for clinical neurological injury from Pb in the form of overt peripheral neuropathy (Erenberg et al., 1974 Seto and Freeman, 1964) showed tremor, wrist and foot drop as determined by electromyography and nerve conduction velocity studies. [Pg.444]
