The substantial work on polystyrene/polybutadiene and polystyrene/ polyisoprene blends and diblock and triblock copolymer systems has lead to a general understanding of the nature of phase separation in regular block copolymer systems (5,6). The additional complexities of multiblocks with variable block length as well as possible hard- and/or soft-phase crystallinity makes the morphological characterization of polyurethane systems a challenge.

Similarly, due to the same reason, in the present book I had to refer only to few aspects regarding the synthesis and characterization of polyurethane ureas. I have mainly focused on polyurethanes extended with diols because our most recent works are dedicated to the investigation of polyurethanes with diols. Further works on the chemistry, morphology and mechanical performance of polyurethane ureas based on isocyanates of variable geometries will be included in our second book.

Significant advances have been made in the design, formation, and characterization of polyurethane nanoparticles. Different approaches have been employed to synthesize polyurethane nanoparticles as carriers of imaging agents, as dmgs, or as copolymers to form different versatile matrices. The chemical reactivity and properties of these polymers make them suitable to bind peptides, nucleic acids, antibodies.
