Thin film cells

Thickness. Unless you re using solution cells, thin film for neat liquids. Leave this blank for KBr samples (unless you ve measured the thickness of the KBr pellet, which you shouldn t have done). [Pg.273]

To overcome these disadvantages, a thin-film CL technique was invented, which remains the most commonly used method in PEM fuel cells. Thin-film catalyst layers were initially used in the early 1990s by Los Alamos National Laboratory [6], Ballard, and Johnson-Matthey [7,8]. A thin-film catalyst layer is prepared from catalyst ink, consisting of uniformly distributed ionomer and catalyst. In these thin-film catalyst layers, the binding material is not PTFE but rather hydrophilic Nafion ionomer, which also provides proton conductive paths for the electrochemical reactions. It has been found that the presence of hydrophobic PTFE in thin catalyst layers was not beneficial to fuel cell performance [9]. [Pg.65]

PlO-14 Titanium dioxide is a wide-bandgap semiconductor that is showing promise as an insulating dielectric in VLSI capacitors and for use in solar cells. Thin films of T102 are to be prepared by chemical vapor deposition from gaseous titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP). The overall reaction is... [Pg.675]

Keller and coworkers synthesized monodomain nematic side-on elastomers containing azobenzenes (Components 18a,b) by photopolymerization with a near-infrared photoinitiator (Li et al., 2003). The photopolymerization was performed with aligned nematic azobenzene monomers in conventional LC cells. Thin films of these LCEs showed fast (less than 1 min) photochemical contraction of up to 18% upon irradiation with UV light and a slow thermal back-reaction in the dark (Fig. 3.22). [Pg.122]

The fabrication technique of active layer (electron donor and electron acceptor) also affects the properties and PCE of the fabricated organic solar cells. Thin film of active layer can be prepared by spin coating, solution printing, roll-to-roll, spray coating, etc. In this contribution, fabrications of nanofibers by electrospinning to control the morphology of semiconductor materials and the uses of electrospun nanofibers as active layers or other parts of organic solar cells will be later reviewed. [Pg.147]
