Cassia tora

Cassia tora gum is derived from the seeds of Cassia tora Linn which is a common herbaceous annual weed found growing throughout India. It has a backbone of 1— 4 linked D-mannopyranose and D-galactopyranose units [77] where the ratio of D-mannopyranosyl to D-galactopyranosyl units is about 5 1 [78]. 

Various modified forms of Cassia tora seed gum (e.g. carbamoylethyl Cassia tora gum (CB-CTG), cyanoethyl Cassia tora gum (CE-CTG), carboxymethyl Cassia tora gum (CM-CTG), quatemized Cassia tora gum (Q-CTG), acrylamide grafted Cassia tora gum (CTG-g-AA), and acrylonitrile grafted Cassia tora gum (CTG-g-AN) [79-85] have been tested against kaolin under laboratory conditions vis-a-vis poly(acrylamide) based synthetic flocculants. 

Hocculation efficiencies of most of the chemicahy modified products of Cassia tora are better than Deftech (polyacrylamide based) flocculant, and thus these Cassia tora derivatives have the potential to replace synthetic flocculants. These modified products can be exploited for the treatment of many industrial effluents.

For wind heat affecting the eyes causing redness, itching, and pain, add Fructus Tribuli Terrestris (Bai Ji Li), Semen Cassiae Torae Jue Ming Zi), and Spica Prunellae Vulgaris (Xia Gu Cao), or subtract Armeniaca and Platycodon and simply add Prunella and Cassia. 

For vertigo, add Flos Chrysanthemi Morifolii (Ju Hua), Ramulus Uncariae Seu Uncis (Gou Teng), and Semen Cassiae Torae (Jue Ming Zi). 

For retinitis, add Scapus Eriocaulonis Buergeriani (Gu Jing Cao), Herba Equiseti Hiemalis (Mu Zei Cao), Semen Cassiae Torae (Jue Ming Cao), and Semen Celosiae Argenteae (QingXiang Zi).
