Career opportunities are available to a wider range of students. CThe career center is geared almost exclusively toward the School of Business, and while employers might not be looking specifically for students majoring in business or related fields, many students will not have the necessary skills to even be in the running for most of the job and internship offers.)... 

Aside from finding job opportunities, adding your resume to an online database, and being able to access free career-related advice, many of the specialized career-related websites also enable job seekers to perform company/industry research online. They offer a range of other services and features designed to make the job-search process faster, easier, and less stressful. 

Another traditional source of information is the Occupational Outlook Handbook (www.bls.gov/oco). The Occupational Outlook Handbook is available at most libraries the career services office at most high schools, colleges, and universities as well as online. It can also be ordered for 64 by calling 202-512-1800. For each of the thousands of occupations covered, this directory describes the nature of the work, working conditions, employment opportunities, the job outlook (between 1998 and 2008), the earning potential/salary range, as well as information about related occupations. 

Based on the descriptions of independent community pharmacy practice and the characteristics of the individuals who pursue this career path, several points must be made. First, independent pharmacists are placed in a difficult situation because of their need to possess expertise in pharmacy practice and business. All pharmacy organizations must stay in business so that they may provide goods, services, and care to patients. Second, independent community pharmacy practice represents one of the most accessible health care venues for patients. Because of this, there exist numerous clinical opportunities for pharmacists in the provision of quality patient care and positive patient outcomes. Third, independent community pharmacists contribute to the overall health of any community not only in the care provided but also in contributions to the economic and civic health of the community. As a health care provider, the pharmacy adds a stable business to any town s economic structure. Additionally, through involvement of the owner and other staff members in civic organizations, these individuals serve as volunteer leaders in activities ranging from school and hospital boards to elected offices. 

The range of careers is very diverse. Pharmacists may choose to remain clinically focused, providing hands-on care to the patient. Opportunities exist to do research on the delivery and use of drugs in the home environment. Extended stability studies are one area where the pharmacist can become involved. If the pharmacist gets involved in clinical research, they should ensure that all appropriate policies and procedures are followed, that the patient and health care providers have appropriate information concerning the drug(s), and that all required record-keeping requirements are met. 

While the business climate has been volatile, I suggest a positive approach to career potential by safety professionals since a broad range of opportunities exists for expansion of their capabihties, greater effectiveness, and recognition.

The opportunities to make mistakes in power stations are innumerable, because of the enormous range of equipment that has to be learned and understood. From my current, late-career perspective, the managanent problan is to ensure somehow that mistakes can be made safely, without blame, so that lessons can be learned without consequence.
