Examples of the protection of alkynes, carboxylic acids, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, amides, amines, esters, ketones, and alkenes are also indexed on p. xvii. Section (designated with an A 15A, 30A, etc.) with protecting group reactions are located at the end of pertinent chapters. [Pg.17]

Within the last two decades, a number of chemical structures have been proposed as metal deactivators for polyolefins. These include carboxylic acid amides of aromatic mono- and di-carboxylic acids and N-substituted derivatives such as N,N -diphenyloxamide, cyclic amides such as barbituric acid, hydrazones and bishydrazones of aromatic aldehydes such as benzaldehyde and salicylaldehyde or of o-hydroxy-arylketones, hydrazides of aliphatic and aromatic mono- and di-carboxylic acids as well as N-acylated derivatives thereof, bisacylated hydrazine derivatives, polyhydrazides, and phosphorus acid ester of a thiobisphenol. An index of trade names and suppliers of a few commercial metal deactivators is given in Appendix A4. [Pg.114]

Esters, amides, and acid hahdes are usually named as derivatives of the parent carboxylic acid. Thus, in Table 4.1, you find ethyl propanoate listed under the parent carboxylic acid, propanoic acid. If you have trouble finding a particular ester under the parent carboxylic acid, try looking under the alcohol part of the name. For example, isopentyl acetate is not listed under acetic acid, as expected, but instead is foimd under the alcohol part of the name (see Table 4.1). Fortunately, this handbook has a Synonym Index that nicely locates isopentyl acetate for you in the main part of the handbook. [Pg.608]

Bixin, 6 -methyl hydrogen 9 -cis-6,6 -diapocarotene-6,6 -dioate (lUPAC, 1974 also 6,6 -diapo-4/,4/-carotenedioitic acid monomethyl ester and carotenoid-carboxylic acid), is isolated from seedsof5wa orellana L. MerckIndex, 1996 Schweppe, 1992). Classed here as a carotenoid compound, it also has the Colour Index designation Cl 75120. [Pg.51]
