Carbon tetrachloride intoxication

A case of polyneuritis was reported in a man who had repeated dermal contact with carbon tetrachloride (Farrell and Senseman 1944). Although dermal absorption of carbon tetrachloride was the cause of the polyneuritis, none of the most characteristic signs of carbon tetrachloride intoxication were noted (nausea, headache, jaundice), and it seems likely that the disease in this individual may have been due to some other agent (Farrell and Senseman 1944). [Pg.63]

Human health effects from longer-term human exposures to carbon tetrachloride generally resemble acute effects of liver and kidney damage. Consumption of alcohol and poorly controlled diabetes may increase the risk of harmful effects associated with carbon tetrachloride intoxication. The US EPA classifies carbon tetrachloride as a group B2, probable human carcinogen. [Pg.427]
