The atomic structure of this subunit and its complexes with substrate analogs revealed the enzymatic activity of the rRNA backbone. Thus, the ribosome is in fact a ribozyme P Nissen, J Hansen, N Ban, PB Moore, TA Steitz. Science 289 920-930, 2000. When pushed to the limit by overriding human health concerns, residue chemists have achieved detection limits of Ippt (Ingkg ) or even into the low ppqr (1 pg kg ) range. An example at the 1 ppt level is provided by methods for 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzodioxin (TCDD) in milk and TCDD in adipose tissue. Eor relatively clean matrices such as water and air, preconcentration on solid-phase adsorbents followed by GC or gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) can provide detection limits of 1 ng m and less for air (examples in Majewski and Capel ) and 1 ngL and less for water (examples in Larson et A summary of units of weight and concentration used to express residue data is given in Table 1. [Pg.4]

In many risk analyses standard dispersion models, available from the EPA for regulatory compliance purposes, are used to compute concentration patterns for prototypes of a class of sources, and the patterns are convolved with population patterns that are characteristic of the source sites (5, 6). A similar level of analysis detail that relies on measured pollutant (ozone) concentration in each county of the Northeast Corridor rather than on modeled concentrations was used by Johnson and Capel ( 7). [Pg.72]

At Frose, a shadow factory to make nickel and tetraethyl lead, "in consideration of the interests of military policy." The tetraethyl part of this Frose factory produced three hundred tons per month. This, and the Capel plant, both Farben-owned shadows, were the sole producers of tetraethyl lead. These shadows were so successfully planned that Allied aircraft never touched them. [Pg.94]
