Camera Technologies

The systems available today are both more sophisticated and simpler than before. The trend is towards more automation, greatly increased speed, more sensitivity and improved camera technology, particularly the use of CCDs. 

A few reports have appeared on combining the streak camera temporal dispersion with polychromators and three dimensional optical multichannel detection. This approach yields three dimensional fluorescence data for each laser pulse. With the present technological limitations of three dimensional detectors and streak cameras, however, data of this type suffer from low wavelength resolution. As detector and streak camera technology improve, this technique may become the method of choice for time and wavelength resolved emission spectra. 

Furnace camera technology, while meeting today s needs, continues to evolve and progress as it incorporates the latest advances. Until recently, the state of the art in these cameras was 480 lines of resolution. Recently, 540-line-resolution cameras became available, with better color rendition and more sophisticated electronics. Light volume control, allowing users to adjust the amount of light to see the different areas and depths within the furnace in a bright application, continues to be very critical and is very advanced.

Surveillance and Security. The ability to use camera technologies to track and identify the movements of individuals or intruders often relies heavily on images. Photographic evidence can be used in court as proof of wrongdoing. 

Industry and Business. The manufacturing industry is a large user of camera technologies, which help it to monitor industrial areas, cut costs, and increase efficiency. For example, many manufacturers use video-surveillance cameras to monitor areas that are intolerable to humans, as the cameras can be designed to have a high resistance to weather and corrosion. Video cameras can also be used near heavy-duty machinery in an industrial environment to check the efficiency of the automated processes and safeguard the employees working there. 

There are many careers in a variety of industries that directly correlate to camera technologies, and entry-level requirements vary significantiy by position. Given the wide spectrum of difference between the careers, a sampling of careers and course work follows.
