Calendered Sheet Application

The main applications for CPVC arise from the fact that the material has a softening point of about 100% and very good chemical resistance. Particular interest has been shown in waste and soil systems which may pass hot water effluents. Calendered sheet may be vacuum formed for uses where hot filling techniques are employed, for example in jam packing. 

Sulfonated EPDMs are formulated to form a number of rubbery products including adhesives for footwear, garden hoses, and in the formation of calendered sheets. Perfluori-nated ionomers marketed as Nation (DuPont) are used for membrane applications including chemical-processing separations, spent-acid regeneration, electrochemical fuel cells, ion-selective separations, electrodialysis, and in the production of chlorine. It is also employed as a solid -state catalyst in chemical synthesis and processing. lonomers are also used in blends with other polymers. 

Calendered sheet is usually less glossy than extruded material. Calendering may be preferable for certain applications requiring its higher tensile properties, product uniformity, and unusually close gauge... 

The most widely plasticized polymer is polyvinyl chloride (PVC) due to its excellent plasticizer compatibility characteristics. Only by incorporation of a plasticizer a degree of flexibility is achieved, which makes PVC suitable for applications such as cable insulation or sheathing, calendered sheets, floor covering, flexible profile or synthetic leather. However, plasticizers have also been used and remain in use with other polymer types. 

For piping, the minimum thickness of 3 mm is satisfactory. The maximum single ply thickness recommended for application is 5 mm and all thicknesses more than 5 mm should be in two or more plies having a maximum thickness per ply of 4 mm. While the thickness specification is for application of lining, the calendering sheet thickness standard used is 1 mm, which is doubled with several plies of 1 mm to obtain the required lining thickness, to ensure pinhole free sheet. 

Other Applications. The phosphonium ionomer from the Exxpro elastomer can be formulated into a wide variety of compounds of interest in applications such as calendered sheet, garden hose, footwear, membranes and packaging materials. 

Applications blow molded bottles, calendered sheet, exterior trim, fence, film, foam, pipe, profile, rigid containers, siding, windows, wood-polymer composites... 

Parison n. The hollow tube or other preformed shape of molten thermoplastic that is inflated inside the mold in the process of blow molding. Most commonly, the parison is extruded immediately before blowing, but parisons are also injection molded and may also be chilled and stored, to be reheated before blowing. In the earliest application of blow molding, a pair of calendered sheets joined along the edges was used as the parison. 

Barium-zinc grades are offered by Ferro as well, with several grades available in liquid form. Applications include flooring topcoats, calendered sheet and extrusion products such as hoses. Some are claimed to give semitransparent products at low cost. 

Ceca markets two tin-based stabilisers, Thermolite 190 and 191, for rigid PVC applications, including calendered sheets in packaging and blister packs, extruded and blow-moulded containers, bottles and injected articles. They need a lower dose than other types of tin mercaptan. 

PVC applications of polymeric ester plasticisers include food wrap, calendered sheet, electrical tape, industrial gloves, protective clothing and roofing materials. Polymeric ester plasticisers are biodegradable, and short life products can be made that degrade in around four weeks under the right conditions. 

The larger part of EPM and EPDM mbber finds applications in continuous extruded profiles or calendered sheets for automotive and building sealing applications. A smaller part is being used for a diversity of applications, from molded goods till viscosity modifiers for lubricant oils. The processing of EPM and EPDM rubbers must be viewed in relationship to the sort of application envisaged.

After mixing the rubber compound, it is strained to remove impurities and converted into either a feeding strip for an extruder or a calendered sheet for direct application. 

Like most other plastics, PVC extruded or calendered sheet used in making blisters and clamshells is generally not collected in postconsumer streams. On the other hand there is a robust market for in-process sheet scrap derived from package off-cuts. This material is chopped and sold into various applications including packaging sheet and sea wall and wall and rigid profile substrates. 

S.4.2 Extruded Flexible Film and Sheet The resin viscosities used in extruded film and sheet are dependent on the application, but normally iT-values range from 60 to 71, with 66 being an average viscosity. Although resin gel content is critical in many extruded and calendered flexible film and sheet applications, extruded products are less tolerant to gels as a rule than calendered products. Since one can achieve sheet products of greater thickness with the extrusion process, differences in clarity between resins can become more important.
