Vitamins A, D, and E are required by mminants and, therefore, their supplementation is sometimes necessary. Vitamin A [68-26-8] is important in maintaining proper vision, maintenance and growth of squamous epitheHal ceUs, and bone growth (23). Vitamin D [1406-16-2] is most important for maintaining proper calcium absorption from the small intestine. It also aids in mobilizing calcium from bones and in optimizing absorption of phosphoms from the small intestine (23). Supplementation of vitamins A and D at their minimum daily requirement is recommended because feedstuffs are highly variable in their content of these vitamins. [Pg.156]

A fermentation such as that of Pseudomonas dentrificans typicaby requires 3—6 days. A submerged culture is employed with glucose, comsteep Hquor and/or yeast extract, and a cobalt source (nitrate or chloride). Other minerals may be required for optimal growth. pH control at 6—7 is usuaby required and is achieved by ammonium or calcium salts. The most commonly used stabilizers are barium, cadmium, zinc, calcium and cobalt salts of stearic acid phosphorous acid esters epoxy compounds and phenol derivatives. Using stabilizers can improve the heat and UV light resistance of the polymer blends, but these are only two aspects. The processing temperature, time, and the blending equipment also have effects on the stability of the products. The same raw materials and compositions with different blending methods resulted in products with different heat stabilities. As previously described [2, 11], E. chrysanthemi possesses at least seven pectate lyases. Among them, PelZ seems to belong to a new family. However, its biochemical characteristics, basic optimal pH, calcium dependence and methylation sensitivity corroborate with those of the other pectate lyases of E. chrysanthemi. The weak expression of the pelZ gene and the weak activity of the PelZ protein seem to be correlated with specific environmental conditions.
