The most commonly used stabilizers are barium, cadmium, zinc, calcium and cobalt salts of stearic acid phosphorous acid esters epoxy compounds and phenol derivatives. Using stabilizers can improve the heat and UV light resistance of the polymer blends, but these are only two aspects. The processing temperature, time, and the blending equipment also have effects on the stability of the products. The same raw materials and compositions with different blending methods resulted in products with different heat stabilities. Therefore, a thorough search for the optimal processing conditions must be done in conjunction with a search for the best composition to get the best results. 

During each production run, the blending equipment is available for a maximum of 14 machine hours, the cooking equipment for at most 40 machine hours, and the packaging equipment for at most 15 machine hours. If each machine can be allocated to the making of either type of candy at all times that it is available for production, determine how many boxes of each kind of candy the confectioner should make to realize the maximum profit. Use a graphical technique for the two variables. 

According to the vendor, the normal cost range for treatment of 1 yd of waste varies from 15.00 to 120.00 ( 12 to 96 per ton). Capital costs range from 75,000 to 250,000 depending on the output capacity of the blending equipment (D12909J, p. 32).

In addition to lower capital outlay, dry-blending requires considerably less processing energy. Final product density, which is usually near unity, depends on the density of the starting materials and the nature of equipment used to blend these materials. Modern mixing and blending equipment, if properly controlled, can give product density and particle sizes comparable to spray-dried products.
