WBCSD World Business Council for Sustainable Development... 

In January 2004, BASF became a founding member of the China Business Council for Sustainable Development and hosted a symposium to encourage direct contact with its stakeholders. This organization brings us together with other like-minded members such as Sinopec, which is now not only our investment partner but also a partner on the journey to promoting sustainable development in China. 

The WBCSD has a Regional Network3 of fifty-four Business Councils for Sustainable Development (BCSDs), which are mostly located in developing countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. BCSDs are autonomous and largely operate at the national level. Many BCSDs are engaged in chemicals-related activities.

Eco-efficiency Delivery of competitively priced goods and services that satisfy human needs and bring quality of life, while progressively reducing ecological impacts and resource intensity throughout the life cycle, to a level at least in line with the earth s estimated carrying capacity. The World Business Council for Sustainable Development developed the concept of eco-efficiency to look at cost optimization in the context of positive environmental benefits. 

The WBCSD is a coalition of international companies united by a shared commitment to the environment. It is based in Geneva and started off as the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) in 1990 to provide a business perspective on economic growth and sustainable development, prior to the Rio Summit in June 1992. In January 1995, BCSD was merged with the WICE (World Industry Council for the Environment) to form the WBCSD, which is now claimed to be the pre-eminent business voice on sustainable development issues. 

Examination of assertions the verifier confirms that in its opinion the report is based on the guidelines section of the GRI draft guidelines, and that the eco-efficiency indicators were identified, defined and calculated in accordance with the Eco-efficiency concept of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development .
