Fig. 3.13. A certain arc height is imposed on the clamped-in-place HDPE geomembrane specimen by the inflow of a specified amount of water, which rapidly enters the burst test device. Because of the incompressibility of the water body the imposed centrepoint deflection does not change with time. However, water pressure will drop as a function of time and a relaxation curve for the plane state of stress can be determined, which typically occurs in the case of subsidence of the geomembrane foundation layer (BCreiter and Hutten 1990)... Pulsed plasmas containing hydrogen isotopes can produce bursts of alpha particles and neutrons as a consequence of nuclear reactions. The neutrons are useful for radiation-effects testing and for other materials research. A dense plasma focus filled with deuterium at low pressure has produced 10 neutrons in a single pulse (76) (see Deuterium AND TRITIUM). Intense neutron fluxes also are expected from thermonuclear fusion research devices employing either magnetic or inertial confinement. [Pg.114]

Several narcotic antagonists, including naloxone, naltrexone, L-methadone, and cyclazocine, have been incorporated in lactide homopolymers and lactide/glycolide copolymers. Cyclozocine was incorporated in poly(L-lactide) in the form of films (81,82). Lamination of drug-polymer films with a drug-free film created a reservoir device and eliminated the burst observed with the monolithic films originally tested. [Pg.18]

Both Cardox and Hydrox devices should be subjected to tests before permission is granted for their use in coal mines, because the essential components of these devices are mixtures similar in nature to explosives. Faulty assembly, such as omission of a bursting disk may bring hot gases in contact with a methane-air mixture or coal-dust. [Pg.526]

The partitioning of radioactive debris in the troposphere and stratospheric regions is determined by the total explosive yield and the height and latitude of the burst. The total yield is the sum of the fission and fusion yields of the device. The production of important fallout radionuclides is determined by the fission yield of the weapon. Smaller yield nuclear explosions are produced by fission reactions, while larger yield explosions result from boosted fission or thermonuclear fusion reactions. Of the total yield of all atmospheric tests of440 Mt, an estimated 182 Mt, or about 40% of the total, was fission yield and the remainder was fusion yield. The contributions of countries conducting atmospheric tests to the total fission yield is shown in Table 10.3. [Pg.494]

Film material regarding gun fire and blaze tests are available on the following web-site http //extras.springer.com/2014/978-3-642-37414-2 . The gun fire tests are done to ensure, that the container does not burst even under gun fire. The blaze test is intended to make sure, that even in case of a strong fire the hydrogen is released in a controlled way via a pressure relief device. [Pg.88]

Heterostructure and bipolar devices as lasers, diodes, solar cells (Chobola 2001) and transistors (Koncza-kowska 1987) are similar from the point of view of the physical processes, taking place during the device operation. This infers that the basis of the methods of their quahty testing can be similar for all of them. The main source of noise is the excess current which has 1/f spectral density. Occasionally the g-r noise, created by burst processes, is observed. Qualitative characterization of the 1/f excess noise is possible with the use of generalized Hooge s formula (6). The measurable quantity of sample quality and reliability is the indicator Mg given by... [Pg.1830]

Fabric Bursting strength A MT-LQ Stable Micro Systems dynamometer equipped with a clampit device for securing the fabric sample and a probe for producing fabric bursting has been used. A circular area of fabric is clamped around its circumference. A circular area of 25 mm 0.1 mm diameter must be exposed for testing. The clamping device should be positioned centrally above the probe. [Pg.184]

New designs of irradiation devices for the production of radioactive isotopes, in particular cobalt-60, were tested in the steel blanket. The key innovation in these designs was the absence of the absorber elements. In the course of the experiments, power bursts up to 50% were revealed on the core boundary. Since the considerable decrease of power is observed in the core periphery, these bursts are unlikely to cause the parameters of power reactor standard fuel subassemblies to go over permissible operating limits. However, the final conclusion on this issue can be drawn only after the comprehensive analysis of S/A performance taking into account the obtained experimental data. [Pg.158]

The balance of the vertical blanking interval from the end of the nine-line synchronizing period to the start of the first active scanning line is called the back porch and contains the correct number of horizontal sync pulses and line intervals to complete the interval. In a color signal, burst is also present in its proper relationship to horizontal sync. The back porch period is also used for the insertion of special test and reference signals to check the quality of television transmission and recording devices. [Pg.1719]

C. This device is permitted only in cylinders having a minimum required test pressure of 3000 psig (20 680 kPa) or higher, and is required in one end only. The bursting pressure of the disk shall be at least 75% of the minimum required test pressure of the cylinder. [Pg.130]

Carbon tetrafluoride is authorized for shipment in DOT specified cylinders as identified in 49 CFR 173.302 and equivalent Canadian regulations. [1] and [2] Authorized pressure relief devices include the Type CG-1 rupture disk, the Type CG-4 or CG-5 combination rupture disk/fusible plug device, or the Type CG-7 pressure relief valve. [3] The rupture disk must have a bursting pressure not exceeding the minimum prescribed test pressure of the cylinder. [Pg.309]
