Bottom steel

The modifications were related to the plates used in the produced design concept. All four upper plates were combined into a single upper steel plate, and similarly all four bottom plates were combined into a single bottom steel plate. Next, all eight vertical plates were substituted by only two vertical steel plates but were shaped in such a way that part of them would support the bottom horizontal plate and would be used for the transfer of shear forces. As a result of all these modifications, an elegant and simple spatial system of four steel plates was created with two identical horizontal plates and two identical vertical plates. [Pg.172]

The metal layer in the bottom of the furnace reduces the volume of slag in the furnace. The metal could escape the furnace only through several holes in the bottom steel shell before the installation of the metal tapping system. Regular metal tapping provided improved profits and was one of the factors that improved the fuming reaction in the vessel. [Pg.341]

Superplastic, ultrahigh carbon steel can be stretched to 11 times its size at 900 C. The original size of the bottom steel piece was 1 inch, but it was pulled to a length of 14 inches. Conventional steels collapse when they are extended to two times their size. [Pg.470]

A steel-conerete composite slab is newly available in construetion, of which concrete is placed in a steel mold that eonsists of steel side plates, top reinforcing bars and transverse ribs, and stud-planted bottom steel plates. Configuration of one t) e slab is shown Fig. 13.21. Compared with a reinforced concrete slab, this slab is expeeted to bear a large load- capacity and to have good enduranee. Although these eharacteristics are favorable for bridge construction, visual inspection is very difficult in particular, for concrete and its interfaee with steel plate. As a result, effective inspee-tion techniques for steel-concrete eomposite slabs are in demand and under development. [Pg.336]

For the evaluation of the sliding resistance, the transfer of the total lateral shear force between the tank and the subgrade shall be considered. For self-anchored (unanchored) flat-bottom steel tanks, the overall horizontal seismic shear force shall be resisted by the friction between the tank bottom and the fotmdation or subgrade. Self-anchored storage tanks shall be proportioned such that the seismic base shear, Q, does not exceed a limit value Qs, defined as follows ... [Pg.1358]

In this condenser, part of the stripper off-gases are condensed (the heat of condensation is used to generate low pressure steam). The carbamate formed and noncondensed NH and CO2 are put into the reactor bottom and conversion of the carbamate into urea takes place. The reactor is sized to allow enough residence time for the reaction to approach equiUbrium. The heat required for the urea reaction and for heating the solution is suppHed by additional condensation of NH and CO2. The reactor which is lined with 316 L stainless steel, contains sieve trays to provide good contact between the gas and Hquid phases and to prevent back-mixing. The stripper tubes are 25-22-2 stainless steel. Some strippers are still in service after almost 30 years of operation. [Pg.304]

Steel. The steel container s most usual form is cylindrical with a concave (or flat) bottom and a convex top dome with a circular opening finished to receive a valve with a standard 2.54-cm opening. The three pieces (body, bottom, and top) are produced separately and joined by high speed manufacturing. The size of the container is described by its diameter and height to top seam, in that order. Hence a 202 x 509 container is 54.0 mm (2 /jg in.) in diameter by 141.3 mm (5 /jg in.) high. Tables of available sizes and overflow volumes and suggested fill levels can be readily obtained from manufacturers. [Pg.349]

Fiber-reiaforced panels covered with PVF have been used for greenhouses. Transparent PVF film is used as the cover for flat-plate solar collectors (114) and photovoltaic cells (qv) (115). White PVF pigmented film is used as the bottom surface of photovoltaic cells. Nonadhering film is used as a release sheet ia plastics processiag, particularly ia high temperature pressing of epoxy resias for circuit boards (116—118) and aerospace parts. Dispersions of PVF are coated on the exterior of steel hydrauHc brake tubes and fuel lines for corrosion protection. [Pg.382]

The reactor effluent, containing 1—2% hydrazine, ammonia, sodium chloride, and water, is preheated and sent to the ammonia recovery system, which consists of two columns. In the first column, ammonia goes overhead under pressure and recycles to the anhydrous ammonia storage tank. In the second column, some water and final traces of ammonia are removed overhead. The bottoms from this column, consisting of water, sodium chloride, and hydrazine, are sent to an evaporating crystallizer where sodium chloride (and the slight excess of sodium hydroxide) is removed from the system as a soHd. Vapors from the crystallizer flow to the hydrate column where water is removed overhead. The bottom stream from this column is close to the hydrazine—water azeotrope composition. Standard materials of constmction may be used for handling chlorine, caustic, and sodium hypochlorite. For all surfaces in contact with hydrazine, however, the preferred material of constmction is 304 L stainless steel. [Pg.282]
