Uses. Diacetone alcohol is a widely used solvent in the coatings industry where it finds appHcation in hot lacquers which require high boiling components, and in bmshing lacquers where its mild odor, blush resistance, and flow-out properties are desired. Diacetone alcohol is also a solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, and epoxy resins. [Pg.493]

One principal use of cyclohexanol has been in the manufacture of esters for use as plasticizers (qv), ie, cyclohexyl and dicyclohexyl phthalates. In the finishes industry, cyclohexanol is used as a solvent for lacquers, shellacs, and varnishes. Its low volatiUty helps to improve secondary flow and to prevent blushing. It also improves the miscibility of cellulose nitrate and resin solutions and helps maintain homogeneity during drying of lacquers. Reaction of cyclohexanol with ammonia produces cyclohexylamine [108-91-8], a corrosion inhibitor. Cyclohexanol is used as a stabilizer and homogenizer for soaps and synthetic detergent emulsions. It is used also by the textile industry as a dye solvent and kier-boiling assistant (see Dye carriers). [Pg.426]

These are usually self-adhesive, precut, printed patterns on a substrate that are simply adhered to the surface of a product. Decals generally use a transparent plastic film while labels are usually on an opaque plastic, metallic and multilayer sandwich base. Labels of sufficient thickness are useful for hiding unavoidable appearance problems such as gate and sprue removal areas, sink marks, blushes, splays, and weld lines. [Pg.546]

And frankly, that s not a bad thing if that s what you ve come out for. Sex is a shot, like gin or vodka, and drinks have a blush-less and bold history of mood-producing—good and bad. You knock it back and you take your chances. [Pg.98]

The flowers are small, about 1/5 of an inch long with five lobed corollas with five stamens and short filaments. The flowers are fragrant and form a flat-topped cluster (known as a corymbose cyme) with stalks of different lengths all growing to the same level. They bloom from the center outward. The flowers are often pollinated by flies and other insects. The purplish black berries, which ripen in September in the Northern Hemisphere, contain ovate greenish brown seeds. The berries are actually black, but have a powdery blush on them which makes them appear blue. There are often three seeds in each berry. Red berries, which should not be eaten, have too high a saponin content which even keeps animals from consuming them. Plants can usually reproduce by the time they are three to five years old. [Pg.72]

Another new aspect of this concept is that it does not include a single optimum quality. For example, some consumers like green, firm, juicy apples, and others prefer blushed, sweet, aromatic apples. So, there is some freedom to choose a more growth-related or a more differentiation-related optimal balance when managing the crop. [Pg.59]

Parameters for tree differentiation are autumn colours and bud formation (with equal bearing). Parameters for fruit differentiation are degree and hue of blush, yellow ground (background) colour, shape of fruit, sheen, starch conversion, differentiation score on crystallisation pictures and luminescence. [Pg.65]

Blockers blunt the peripheral autonomic symptoms of arousal (e.g., rapid heart rate, sweating, blushing, and tremor) and are often used to decrease anxiety in performance-related situations. For specific SAD, 10 to 80 mg of propranolol or 25 to 100 mg of atenolol can be taken 1 hour before the performance. A test dose should be taken at home on a day before the performance to be sure adverse effects will not be problematic. [Pg.764]

At first blush, the increased risk of harm suit against a drug manufacturer on a negligence theory that pharmacogenomics could have been used to determine the increased risks to a portion of the population appears to be a logical extension of the doctrinal shifts in liability law signaled by Moore. The likelihood of success of this particular lawsuit is in fact small because of the nature of existing medical liability doctrine in Pennsylvania. [Pg.201]

This emotion is one of the most neglected and yet who would deny that it constitutes a distinct affect, or that people everywhere do not seek the approval of others Darwin (1872) described the characteristic expressions of this emotion—the erect, expansive posture of pride (or dominance), and the antithetical demeanor, and blushing, of shame (or submission). The main objection by mainstream psychologists to accepting pride/shame into the pantheon of basic emotions seems to be the fact that different values prevail around the world, so that what merits approval in one place may warrant disapproval elsewhere. But the same could be said of other emotions such as hunger and interest, which... [Pg.36]
