Operations such as blending, solids-suspension, dissolving, heat transfer and liquid-liquid extraction are typical of systems requiring high flow relative to turbulence, while gas-liquid reactions and some liquid-liquid contacting require high turbulence relative to flow. The case of (1) 100% of suspension—requires head to keep particles suspended and (2) 100% uniformity of distribution of particles—requires head for suspension plus flow for dis-tiibution. [Pg.323]

Besides emulsifying properties, another useful characteristic of solid fats are their malleable melting points profiles. These three approaches have found widespread application to a large variety of systems and equilibria types ranging from vapor-liquid equilibria for binary and multicomponent polymer solutions, blends, and copolymers, liquid-liquid equilibria for polymer solutions and blends, solid-liquid-liquid equilibria, and solubility of gases in polymers, to mention only a few. In some cases, the results are purely predictive in others interaction parameters are required and the models are capable of correlating (describing) the experimental information. In Section 16.7, we attempt to summarize and comparatively discuss the performance of these three approaches. We attempt there, for reasons of completion, to discuss the performance of a few other (mostly) predictive models such as the group-contribution lattice fluid and the group-contribution Flory equations of state, which are not extensively discussed separately. [Pg.684]

Many of the machines described in the last section can blend solids when they are dry and free flowing as well as when they are damp, pasty, rubbery, or plastic. Mullers, pan mixers, and pugmills are examples. Such versatile machines are needed when the properties of the material change markedly during the mixing operation.
