Table 3 shows results obtained from a five-component, isothermal flash calculation. In this system there are two condensable components (acetone and benzene) and three noncondensable components (hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane). Henry s constants for each of the noncondensables were obtained from Equations (18-22) the simplifying assumption for dilute solutions [Equation (17)] was also used for each of the noncondensables. Activity coefficients for both condensable components were calculated with the UNIQUAC equation. For that calculation, all liquid-phase composition variables are on a solute-free basis the only required binary parameters are those for the acetone-benzene system. Appendix C-6 gives parameters for all the condensable binary systems we have here investigated literature references are also given for experimental data. Parameters given are for each set of data analyzed they often reflect in temperature (or pressure) range, number of data points, and experimental accuracy. Best calculated results are usually obtained when the parameters are obtained from experimental data at conditions of temperature, pressure, and composition close to those where the calculations are performed. Xenon dichloride [13780-38-6], XeCl, and xenon(II) chloroduoride [73378-52-6], XeClE, have been prepared by photochemical and electric discharge methods and have been examined at low temperatures by matrix-isolation techniques (39,40). The dichloride has a linear stmcture like that of XeE2. Evidence for the existence of XeCl2, XeBr2, and xenon tetrachloride [14989-42-5], XeCl, has been obtained from Mn ssbauer studies (41,42). Park has also obtained osmotic coefficient data for the aqueous solutions of NaOH-NaCl- NaAl(OH)4 at 25°C employing the isopiestic method (Park and Englezos, 1999 Park, 1999). The solutions were prepared by dissolving AlCl r6H20 in aqueous NaOH solutions. The osmotic coefficient data were then used to evaluate the unknown Pitzer s binary and mixing parameters for the NaOH-NaCI-NaAl(OH)4-H20 system. The binary Pitzer s parameters, [3(0), P0). and C9, for NaAI(OH)4 were found to be -0.0083, 0.0710, and 0.00184 respectively. A novel polysiloxane, containing the isocyanide group pendent to the backbone, has been synthesized. It is observed to react with the metal vapors of chromium, iron and nickel to afford binary metal complexes of the type M(CN-[P])n, where n = 6, 5, 4 respectively, in which the polymer-attached isocyanide group provides the stabilization for the metal center. The product obtained from the reaction with Fe was found to be photosensitive yielding the Fe2(CN-[P])q species and extensive cross-linking of the polymer. The Cr and Ni products were able to be oxidized on exposure of thin films to the air, or electrochemically in the presence of an electron relay. The availability of different oxidation states for the metals in these new materials gives hope that novel redox-active polymers may be accessible. [Pg.238]
