Freundlich-isotherm

We wUl now touch upon some of these factors. First, let s look at what we mean by system isotherm. Freundlich liquid phase isotherm studies can be used to establish the adsorptive capacity of activated carbon over a range of different concentrations. Under standard conditions, the adsorptive capacity of activated carbon increases as the concentration increases, until we reach a point of maximum saturation capacity. An example of an isotherm for phenol is shown in Figure 8. [Pg.412]

Isotherms. When a fiber is immersed in a dyebath, dye moves from the external phase into Lhe fiber. Initially the rate is quick but with time this slows and eventually an equilibrium is reached between the concentration of dye in the fiber and the concentration of dye in the dyebath. For a given initial dyebath concentration of a dye under given dyebath conditions, e.g.. temperature, pH, and conductivity, there is an equilibrium concentration of dye in fiber, D, and dye in the dyebath external solution, D,. Three models describe this relationship simple partition isotherm. Freundlich isotherm, and Langmuir isotherm. [Pg.520]

Sorption of Mo(VI) in these experiments can be described by the Freundlich isotherm. Freundlich constants for sorption from sewage-contaminated ground water were calculated from a linear plot of the concentration of Mo(VI) sorbed by sediment in each column compared to input concentration (Figure 1) using the following equation ... [Pg.244]

The determination of adsorption capacities in multicomponent solutions requires an appropriate description of the single solute isotherm. Freundlich s model may be selected, with the division of isotherms into linear concentration ranges introduced 1 Tien [3],... [Pg.380]

Among the isotherms that portray the adsorptive equilibrium, the Langmuir isotherm, Freundlich and Dubinin-Raduskevich were cited. For the adsorptive kinetic models, stand out the Lagergren, in models of pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order. [Pg.291]

Free gel was added to definite concentrations of the MB solutions (2-20 mg/1) at room temperature and was noted for its adsorption. It is clear from Figure 13.3 that the dye adsorption increases sharply with an increase in the initial dye concentration. When Cq was reached at 5 ppm and 10 ppm, the was reached at 10.04 and 20.81 respectively, which were much higher than reported Qe values of other adsorbents (Table 13.3). Equilibrium adsorption isotherm is an important criterion to determine the mechanism of dye adsorption on hydrogel. The Langmuir and Freundlich models are widely used to examine the adsorption isotherms. Freundlich isotherm models are based on the assumption that the surface of the adsorbent is not homogeneous. The experimental data in Figure 13.3 was also analyzed with the Freundlich isotherm model, which describes a heterogeneous system with multilayer adsorption. The linear form of Freundlich isotherm equation... [Pg.190]

A simplified model of equilibrium surface suggests that the DR behaviour is observed in low-pressure adsorption on patchwise, weakly heterogeneous surfaces which were grown in equilibrium conditions and hence were quenched at the adsorption temperature. At higher pressures, these surfaces should exhibit the Freundlich behaviour, while in the case of strong heterogeneity adsorption should be described by the Temkin isotherm. The three classic empirical isotherms, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, Temkin, seem therefore to be related to adsorption on equilibrium surfaces, and the explanation of these experimental behaviours can be seen as a new chapter of the theory of adsorption the theory of physical adsorption on equilibrium surfaces. [Pg.83]

An adsorbed film obeys a modified Amagat equation of state, t(t = qkT (see Eq. ni-107). Show that this corresponds to a Freundlich adsorption isotherm (Eq. XI-12) and comment on the situation. [Pg.420]

Adsorption This is the most widely used of the physical-chemical treatment processes. It is used primarily for the removal of soluble organics with activated carbon serving as the adsorbent. Most liquid-phase-activated carbon adsorption reactions follow a Freundlich Isotherm [Eq. (25-21)]. [Pg.2226]

Now, if the solutes interact with themselves more strongly than they do with the stationary phase, then their presence will increase the interaction of further solute with the stationary phase mixture. This gives an isotherm having the shape shown in Figure 10. This type of isotherm is called a Freundlich isotherm, the expression for... [Pg.178]

The Freundlich liquid phase isotherm can be used to determine the effect of solubility on the adsorptive capacity of activated carbon over a range of different concentrations. Phenol is highly soluble due to its polar nature whilst, in comparison, tetrachloroethylene (PCE) has a low solubility due to being non-polar. In the isotherms illustrated, the concentration of phenol is low relative to its solubility limit and consequently, the adsorptive capacity peaks at 18% maximum (see Figure 9). In comparison the concentration of tetrachloroethylene is relatively close to its solubility limit and, accordingly, the adsorptive capacity is exceptionally good. [Pg.413]

The isotherms for the two enantiomers of phenylalanine anilide were measured at 40, 50, 60 and 70 C, and the data fitted to each of the models given in Equations (1-3) [42]. The isotherms obtained by fitting the data to the Langmuir equation were of a quality inferior to the other two. Fittings of the data to the Freundlich and to the bi-Langmuir equations were both good. A comparison of the residuals revealed that the different isotherms of d-PA were best fitted to a bi-Langmuir model, while the... [Pg.163]

The dissolution of passive films, and hence the corrosion rate, is controlled by a chemical activation step. In contrast to the enhancement of the rate of dissolution by OH ions under film-free conditions, the rate of dissolution of the passive film is increased by increasing the ion concentration, and the rate of corrosion in film-forming conditions such as near-neutral solutions follows the empirical Freundlich adsorption isotherm ... [Pg.310]

Another useful model for isothermal adsorption is the Freundlich model, which is presented by the following equation. [Pg.186]
