Bills of Materials

Since the schematic we created in previous sections only contains parts in our Digikey database, we can easily create a bill of materials (BOM) that contains information from the database. The information contained in the BOM can be easily configured, and the BOM can be viewed with a text editor or exported to Microsoft Excel. Here, we will show how to create a custom BOM and export the information to Excel, where it can be easily manipulated. We will start with the project created in the earlier sections of this manual. If you have the screen in the previous window, type CTRL-F4 to close the schematic and return to the tree view of the project  

Select Reports, CIS Bill of Materials, and then Standard from the menus  

You will need to experiment with the different items to generate the information in which you are interested. The last thing we will do is choose the option to export the information to Microsoft Excel. Select the option as shown above. 

When you click the OK button, Excel will run, and the information for the BOM will be exported to the spreadsheet

Knowing the serial number allows detailed information on a machine or component to be obtained. This is possible because machinery manufacturers must maintain records for their products. These records, which are usually identified by serial number, contain complete design and performance data for that specific unit. For example, it is possible to obtain a performance curve or complete bill of materials for each pump found in a plant.

Input products are single to few and factors are mainly stable. Input factors are reflected in the recipe. Recipe in the chemical industry is a synonym for the bill-of-material in discrete parts manufacturing and includes all input products with their respective input fraction required to produce one unit of one or several output products in a production process. In chemical production, the degree of raw material consumption rates and hence the recipe factors can depend on the processing mode of the equipment, which can be employed at different utilization or throughput levels. In this case, the recipe is not composed of static input factors but of recipe functions, which express the relationship between the input consumption and the process quantity produced. 

If typical drawings, schematics, and bills of material are used, they shall be marked up to show the correct weight and dimension data and to reflect the acmal equipment and scope proposed.
