This lest is conducted to establish the satisfactory functioning of mechanical parts, such as switching devices and their interlocks, shutter assembly, draw-out mechanisms and interchangeability between identical draw-out modules, A brief procedure to test these features is as follows. 

To properly receive the seal, the radial space and depth of the stuffing box must be the same as the dimensions shown on the seal assembly drawing. 

Check the thickness of all gaskets against the dimensions shown on the assembly drawing. Improper gasket thickness will affect the seal setting and the spring load imposed on the seal. 

Instruction booklets and a copy of the assembly drawing are shipped with each seal. Be sure each is available and read the instmctions before starting installation. 

If the seal assembly drawing is not available, the proper seal setting dimension for inside seals can be determined as follows ... 

Mechanical seals are often chosen and designed to operate with environmental controls. If this is the case, check the seal assembly drawing or equipment drawing to ensure that all environmental control piping is properly installed. Before equipment startup, all cooling and heating lines should be operating and remain so for at least a short period after equipment shutdown.

Figure 14 shows an assembly drawing of a 20-rotor still upon which the cost study w2ls based. The installed cost of the rotor area was estimated at about 23 per sq. foot. This value may be adjusted up or down as the capacity requirements change. The larger the number of rotors required, the lower the unit cost of the evaporator. Twenty rotor pairs should produce 65,000 gallons per day, 30 rotor pairs about 100,000. 

In both cases, the system build phase is to be performed according to the specifications and assembly drawings of the component manufacturer. Assembled systems using hardware from different sources require verification confirming the compatibility of interconnected hardware components.

Draw some methanol or another solvent which reacts gently with the reagent to destroy the air-sensitive reagent and squirt it into an excess of water. To clean the syringe assembly, draw water into the syringe several times and then disassemble it, wash well with propanone (acetone) and water, and then dry in the oven.

Costs. Preconstruction cost estimates can be made for packed and plate towers, using Fig. 6-30. For more accurate costs, an assembly drawing should be prepared and sent out for bid.
