Betaines amine

Examples betaines, amine oxides, amine propionates, amphoacetates... [Pg.1715]

Fatty Amines. A variety of different fatty amines is used as intermediates for surfactant production. Primary amines are used to prepare alkoxylated amines. The primary amine is produced by reacting fatty acid with ammonia to form the nitrile followed by hydrogenation. Tertiary amines are used as an intermediate for producing betaine, amine oxide, and hydroxyl ethyl quat (HEQ). The tertiary amine is produced by reacting olefin with HBr followed by substitution with dimethylamine. [Pg.1722]

An important reason besides cleaning for using combinations of primary and secondary surfactants is to improve the quality and volume of foam. As discussed in Section II.A.2, some secondary surfactants such as betaines, amine oxides, and fatty alkanolamides also act as foam modifiers. They change the foams from a loose lacy structure generated by lauryl and laureth sulfates to rich and creamy foams. [Pg.395]

Unlike betaines, amine oxides are never anionic. However, they do show cationic or nonionic behavior depending on the pH, and therefore behave quite similarly [40]. Amine oxides are produced by the oxidation of tertiary alkylamines for example, dimethyl or ethoxylated amines with hydrogen peroxide. They are colorless liquids and free from salt (NaCl). As such, they are excellent foamers. The various types of amine oxides are shown in Figure 12.14. [Pg.235]

The major use of nitrogen derivatives in laundry is as fabric softeners, where quaternary ammonium salts are used (see Chapter 9). However, ethoxylated amines, various types of amides, amphoterics/betaines, amine oxides, and other analogs are quite useful in the laundry detergent area [1-3], which is one focus of this chapter. Other key topics are detergency relating to cleaning of various hard surfaces, carpets, and hair. [Pg.71]
