It should be noted that the materials and operations used in a plant maintenance effort may involve a new set of hazards quite separate from the exposure hazards encountered with feedstocks, intermediates, and products for the process plant. For example, proper maintenance often involves such operations as welding, sandblasting, painting, chemical cleaning, catalyst handling, and insulation replacement. The maintenance of safe conditions requires extensive worker training in each one of these operations. [Pg.51]

Low molar mass ketones are liquids. Ketones with more than Cn atoms are solids. Liquid ketones readily dissolve in water as they form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. Liquid ketones are used as solvents in the preparation of paint chemicals. Solubility of ketones decreases with increasing size of the molecule. Ketones, compared to aldehydes, have more pleasant odor. [Pg.86]

In the United States during the 1870s through 1890s, the Industrial Revolution sprung up and products were not produced in one location or in one facility. Products such as steel, gas and oil, paint, chemicals, glass, and financial services were not available in only one location. Antomobiles, railroads, and other products required... [Pg.17]

The dominating chemical pretreatment used in Europe for molded automotive TPO components is flame treatment. The effectiveness of the flame treatment is checked by surface tension measurement and should be a minimum of 45 dynes/cm to ensure acceptable adhesion with solvent-based paints. Chemically, the adhesion effect of flaming is based on a controlled oxidization of the CH2-and CH3 units (7). Also, a degradation of the polymer and polymer melting can occur therefore the flaming needs to be carried out within an upper and lower temperature limit. [Pg.324]
