Behavior-based approach/programs

Behavior-based safety (BBS) is an approach to safety that focuses on workers behavior as the cause of most work-related injuries and illnesses. Promoters of BBS programs maintain that 80 percent to 96 percent of woikplace incidents are caused by workers unsafe behavior. [Pg.92]

Two of these system variables involve human factors. Each generally receives less attention than the environment, mostly because it is more difficult to visibly measure the outcomes of efforts to change the human factors. Some human factors programs focus on behaviors (as in behavior-based safety) others focus on attitudes (as in a person-based approach). A Total Safety Culture integrates these two approaches. [Pg.42]

During the course of my career in safety management, I have seen companies try to improve their safety culture in a variety of ways. Some of these approaches included the Deming Philosophy, the Safety Observer Program, Total Quality Management, and Behavior-Based Safety. [Pg.15]

In the collective struggle to educate and treat children with sed, schools and affiliated mental health service providers often utilize one or more program options. These have included inpatient hospitalization, partial-hospital (day treatment) programs, outsourced services of community mental health agencies, and traditional special education behavioral programs. These options are discussed in the following, with specific emphasis on traditional school-based approaches. [Pg.206]

The other approach emphasizes behavior-based actions. This program rewards employees for demonstrated acts of safe behavior, taking the reward off the goal, and putting it on the process instead. This is called a proactive approach. [Pg.127]

The treatment of drug dependence or addiction is primarily behavioral. The goal of treatment is complete abstinence, and treatment is a lifelong process. Most drug-dependence treatment programs embrace a treatment approach based on Alcoholics Anonymous. [Pg.848]

The assessment and treatment of autistic disorder and other pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs) requires a multidisciplinary team approach. Initial interventions are largely based on educational programming and behavior management principles, particularly for preschool- and school-aged children and adolescents. Speech therapy is usually essential and physical and occupational therapy are often needed as well. Despite these extensive therapeutic efforts, many children, adolescents, and adults with PDDs remain significantly impaired. Under these conditions, drug treatment is often necessary and appropriate. [Pg.563]
