The first case is the one dealt with by Fujita and Kwan (15), Barry (16), and Terenin and Solonitzin (17) who studied a ZnO-02 system, and also by Kennedy et al. (18,19) who worked with a Ti02-02 system On oxidation of the specimen photodesorption was replaced by photoadsorption. Here also belong the papers by Romero-Rossi and Stone (11,12) (ZnO-02) and by Kwan (18) (Ti02-02) who observed, at high temperatures (above 400°C), the replacement of photodesorption by photoadsorption with increasing oxygen pressure (i.e., as the degree of oxidation of the specimen increased). 

An alternative approach uses tracers, isotopically enriched materials, which are added to the system studied. Labeled compounds are available with the heavy isotope enriched to a level of 99 atom%. These are more difficult to produce than radioisotopes, making them relatively expensive. Materials labeled with stable isotopes are non-radioactive and pose no hazard to human health or the environment (Barrie Prosser, 2000). 

Macinnis was born in Barrie, Ontario, in 1937. In 1963, after graduating from the University of Toronto s medical school, he received a fellowship to study diving medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Diving medicine is a specialized field, dealing with the challenges that humans face when exposed to undersea environments. 

There have been two epidemiological studies regarding carcinogenic effects in workers exposed occupationally to 1,2-dibromoethane, primarily by the respiratory route (Ott et al. 1980 Turner and Barry 1979).

The action of periodic acid (a reagent diagnostic for a-glycols) on agar has been studied by V. C. Barry, who has shown that the polysaccharide consists mainly of 1,3-linked hexopyranose residues since this reagent is practically without effect on the polysaccharide.

Atmospheric chemistry in the Arctic has been the subject of studies for many years, in part because of the observation of Arctic haze decades ago. This haze is composed of particles with significant amounts of sulfate, about half of which is due to long-range transport from other regions, particularly Eurasia during the winter (e.g., Barrie and Bottenheim, 1991 Polissar et al., 1998a, 1998b).

The results of a conductivity study on locust-bean gum (a neutral polysaccharide) in aqueous salt solutions led Barry and Halsey28 to conclude that there is no interaction between this carbohydrate and the many ions employed (H , Na , K , Ag , Ba2 , OAc , Cl , NO, , SO,2 , and HSO, ). Hydroxide ion was an exception. The electrolyte concentrations ranged from 0.0005 to 0.1 N, and the maximum concentration of polysaccharide was 0.0277 M (on a monosaccharide-residue bans). The specific conductivity of each polysaccharide-salt solution was identical to that of the corresponding salt solution containing no polysaccharide, strongly indicating the absence of significant adduct formation under the conditions...
