Important auxiliary equipment in a flotation plant includes feeder and controls, sampling and weighing devices, slurry pumps, filter and thickeners for dewatering solids, reagent storage and makeup equipment, and analytical devices for process control. 

Inert gas-filled motors can also be used in refineries and chemical plants, but their applications are limited. They have tightly fitted covers and oil seals around the shaft to minimize gas leakage, are continually pressurized with an inert gas or instrument air, and are equipped with an internal air-to-water heat exchanger. Inert gas-filled motors are suitable for any hazardous location but require auxiliaries such as cooling water, gas pressurizing system, and control accessories. 

In order to operate the prime movers described in the previous sections it is necessary to provide auxiliary equipment for the start-up, steady operation and shutdown of the basic equipment as well as for monitoring and controlling its performance. The need also arises for the maintenance of the plant that invokes the provision of cranage and lay-down areas in the engine room. The following describes these features for the various types of prime movers. The driven machines (i.e. the electrical generators) are also reviewed in detail so that the complete picture of industrial generating stations can be obtained.

Coastal utilities have been major consumers of products derived from imported crudes. East coast utility fuels have been based on Venezuelan and Middle East crudes while the West coast has obtained much of its fuel from Indonesia. There are a number of reasons why it would be difficult to convert these plants to coal firing. Auxiliary facilities such as storage areas, rail sidings, and unloading and conveying equipment are no longer in place to handle coal. It is even more significant that the land on which these facilities were located has been sold or used for other utility purposes. As a result, scrubbers could not be installed at these sites to allow for sulfur dioxide control. 

The plant comprised the wind turbine, the electrolyser unit complete with its built-in controllable power supply, battery storage, a DC-DC controllable converter, and two dump loads (0.5 and 2 kW) controlled by two voltage-actuated relays. The auxiliary equipment (electrolyser pumps, valves, control equipment, and water demineralisation unit) for the demonstration plant were supplied by the grid for convenience. 

The price for an increase in heat-transfer characteristics is a more complex system with more auxiliary equipment low-pressure receivers, refrigerant pumps, valves, and controls. Liquid refrigerant is predominantly pumped by mechanical pumps, however, sometimes gas at condensing pressure is used for pumping, in the variety of concepts.
