Automobile industry polymer applications

Thus, whether the applications are for indoor or outdoor, for planes, ships, automobiles, industrial equipment, appliances, etc., polymer materials can be made to order for maximum damping. [Pg.22]

In the last several years, polymer thin film deposition using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has become increasingly popular. CVD of polymers offers numerous unique advantages over other polymer synthesis techniques and has been exploited for a multitude of applications in microelectronics, optical devices, biomedical industry, corrosion resistant and protective coatings, and even in the automobile industry. CVD of polymers (also referred to as chemical vapor polymerization, CVP, or sometimes Vapor Deposition Polymerization, VDP) differs from inorganic CVD (such as for metallic or ceramic thin films) and must be developed and optimized... [Pg.243]

Although there are relatively only few polymers synthesized using CVD, these polymers have found place in numerous applications in microelectronics, optical devices, biomedical industry, corrosion resistant and protective coatings, and even in the automobile industry. Any attempt to review all of these applications would be over-ambitious. In this section, a few of them are briefly discussed, selected primarily based on the number of reports available in literature. For each application, first, the requirements imposed on the candidate materials are listed. Then the rationale of choice of these polymers and the CVD process, and finally, the performance of the polymers, along with their shortcomings, are discussed. [Pg.276]

Thermoplastic elastomeric materials have many important applications including cable and wire especially in mineral, electronic equipment, and automobile industries. The most commonly used method of obtaining thermoplastic elastomer in materials is to toughen plastics by blending rubbers and plastics. Among the most versatile polymer matrices, polyolefins such as PP are the most widely used thermoplastics because of their well-balanced physical and mechanical properties and their easy processability at a relatively low cost, which makes them a versatile material. PP has the disadvantage of... [Pg.437]

There is a demand for more powerful polymers like for example PEEK [103, 107, 111], which enables new application areas in the automobile industry and medical fields, as shown in Fig. 81 and underlines the increasing potential of SLS-technologies. Because of this EOS GmbH recently presented a high temperature system, EOSINT P 800, along with PEEK HP3 for SLS. There is a further interest in qualification of bulk polymers like polypropylene [100]. 3D Systems Inc. recently presented DuraForm PP 100 for SLS. Further more there is an interest in some technical polymers like Polyoxymethylene [112]. [Pg.275]

Suddell BC, Evans WJ, Isaac DH et al (2002) A survey into the application of natural fibre composites in the automobile industry. In Proceedings of the 4th inlematimial symposium on natural polymers and composites - ISNAPol, Sao Pedro, SP, Brazil, pp 455-461... [Pg.260]

The previous Section explicitly referred to the tem character of polymer technology. This Section shows, by brief reviews of a selection of current objectives, how the total system of the three elements of polymer feedstock, processing method, and product properties are linked together. As noted in earlier sections, various products such as carbon fibres and some fibre-reinforced plastics are limited essentially by the cost of their process technologies. The application of reinforced polyurethanes to the automobile industry is an example where there are limiting factors in all three of the main technological elements. [Pg.347]

Polymeric resins are widely used thanks to their versatility. In aeronautic applications, they are chosen to replace metallic components for mass and cost reduction. In automobile industry, they are nowadays present in numerous cars components as well as paints. Other important applications for polymers are offshore industry (boats shells), civil engineering (concretes, electrical cables insulators...), to name a few. [Pg.60]

This study illustrated the potential for development of environmentally friendly polymer matrix based on epoxy resin and GMAEVC when the curing condition is considered properly for the application enviromnents of the polymer matrix. Biocomposites made from this thermally stable polymer matrix could be used in high and wet enviromnents such as those foimd in the automobile industries. [Pg.25]

Thin films have become ubiquitous in the polymer industry. Fueled by the microelectronics industry and its need for miniature parts, polymer applications have become more demanding. Polymers in these environments have been tested and modeled in laboratories around the world from universities to automobile companies, research surrounding thin films is quickly growing. ... [Pg.5]

Do you think that daily life would have been easier and colourful without the discovery and varied applications of polymers The use of polymers in the manufacture of plastic buckets, cups and saucers, children s toys, packaging bags, synthetic clothing materials, automobile tyres, gears and seals, electrical Insulating materials and machine parts has completely revolutionised the daily life as well as the industrial scenario. Indeed, the polymers are the backbone of four major Industries viz. plastics, elastomers, fibres and paints and varnishes. [Pg.134]
