Properly designed and installed in accordance with industry standards, regulations, and codes, both UST and AST systems are reliable and safe. Because of space limitations and the prevalence of ASTs at plant sites, only ASTs will be discussed further. 

Standards Third-party standards for AST fabrication have evolved significantly over the past two decades, as have various recommended practice guidelines for the installation and operations of AST systems. Standards developed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) have been perhaps the most predominant guidelines—in fact, ASTs are often categorized according to the UL standard that they meet, such as a UL 142 tank. ... 

The Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) has developed a recommended practice for AST system installation PEI-RP200, RP 200, Recommended Practices for Installation of Aboveground Storage Systems for Motor Vehicle Eueling. 

AST systems cannot process inorganic contaminants or hydrocarbons with boiling points above 900°F. All information used in this summary was provided by the vendor and has not been independently verified. 

Sample preparation Mix 500 xL plasma with 25 p,L 1.5 jig/mL IS in 50 mM pH 7.2 phosphate buffer. The modern usage of P2" go Asts for the treatment of asthma dates to 1903 when the effect of injected epinephrine [51-43-4] (adrenaline) C2H23NO2, (1 R = CH3) was investigated (see Epinephrine and norepinephrine) (33). As in some other modem treatments, eg, xanthines and anticholinergics, the roots of P2" go Ast therapy for asthma can be found in historical records which document the use of herbal extracts containing ephedrine [299-42-3] C qH NO, (2) as bronchodilators. The influence of the sewage and the W aste-handling systems on air quality must be taken into account, since both odorous and toxic gases may be emitted from these systems to the ventilation system.

As shown in Table 2.1, the improved catalytic performance of alkaline-treated zeolites compared to the parent purely microporous counterparts has been demonstrated decidedly by different groups active in academia and in industry. The positive effect is reflected in the enhanced activity, selectivity, and/or lifetime (coking resistance) of the hierarchical systems. The examples listed embrace not only a variety of zeohte topologies (MFl, MOR, MTW, BEA, and AST) but also reactions involving hghter hydrocarbons as well as bulky molecules. This illustrates the potential of the desihcation treatment, although more work is to be done in optimizing the catalytic system for the wide variety of applications. 

Primates offer all of the possible dosing routes available in humans, but body size often limits dosing volumes. If volumes for subcutaneous or intramuscular injections exceed those suggested above, enzyme elevations [particularly alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST)] are frequently observed (unpublished results). Continuous infusion techniques in alert animals are available in some laboratories either through use of programmable backpack pumps or jacket-and-tether systems (Perkin and Stejskal, 1994).

Federal legislation for ASTs is also in the process of being mandated under RCRA. This bill would include requirements for development and implementation of a release prevention plan, a tank system that is capable of containing 110% of the content of the tank and preventing off-site release, and inspection of tank systems by a qualified professional engineer. Provisions will also include evidence of financial responsibility and cleanup of product releases. There is little doubt that legislation for ASTs will be more stringent in the years to come. 

Rare cases of hepatic failure, some leading to death or liver transplant, have occurred with the use of terbinafine for the treatment of onychomycosis in individuals with and without pre-existing liver disease. In the majority of liver cases reported in association with terbinafine use, the patients had serious underlying systemic conditions and an uncertain causal relationship with terbinafine. Terbinafine is not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease. Before prescribing terbinafine, assess pre-existing liver disease. Hepatotoxicity may occur in patients with and without preexisting liver disease. Pretreatment serum transaminase (ALT and AST) tests are advised for all patients before taking terbinafine. 

SwRI 97-04, Standard for Fire Resistant Tanks, includes tests to evaluate the performance of ASTs under fire and hose stream. This standard is similar to UL 2080 in that the construction is exposed to a 2-h hydrocarbon pool fire of 1093°C (2000°F). However, SwRI 97-04 is concerned only with the integrity of the tank after the 2-h test and not concerned with the temperature inside the tank due to the heat transfer. As a result, UL 142 tanks have been tested to the SwRI standard and passed. Secondary containment with insulation is not necessarily an integral component of the system. 

Diked ASTs Fire codes dictate flammable and combustible liquid tanks have spill control in the form of dike, remote impounding, or small secondary containment tanks. The dike must contain the content of the largest tank to prevent hazardous liquids from endangering the public and property. Traditional bulk storage systems will include multiple tanks within a concrete or earthen dike wall. 

Advanced Soil Technologies (AST) offers the AST thermal desorption system for the treatment of soil contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The process heats the soil to remove the targeted contaminants, which are then destroyed in a secondary treatment chamber. The technology has been available commercially. RIMS was unable to contact the vendor.
