Verein zur Wahrung der Interessen der chemischen Industrie Deutschlands Association for Promoting the Interests of the Chemical Industry of Germany VzW 1877 ... 

The American Biological Safety Association promotes biosafety as a scientific discipline and senses the growing needs of biosafety professionals throughout the world. It is a professional association that represents the interests and needs of practitioners of biological safety, and provides a fomm for the continued and timely exchange of biosafety information. 

A powerful way of overcoming the credibility problem associated with QSARs is to establish a formal framework for promoting the use of QSARs. Ideally, this framework should be managed by an organization that is independent of national and sectoral interests, which is close to the regulatory process, and has no commercial interests associated with the use of QSARs. The framework should not only facilitate the development and validation of QSARs, but should also provide a means for the independent peer review of the validation process and initiate the regulatory acceptance process wherever appropriate. 

There is usually some overlap between associations that serve the same industry, or segments of an industry, but often the focus and charter of each association is different enough to warrant the existence of each. For the most part, trade associations serve to promote the interests of companies participating in that industry segment. A variety of functions are performed by most associations, and these are listed below. Not every association performs every function, and some do a better job on certain functions than others. Some charge fees for many of these services, some provide certain portions of the elements listed for members only, and some even provide information for free. Each and every association reflects its charter and the desires of the participating, and dues-paying, membership. 

The Committee continued to function after the publication of the report, but held no meetings nor took any significant action for the next few years. The published report appears to have stimulated interest and commendation, but no funds were forthcoming to establish a research institute (78, 79). In the meantime, Herty had given up his position with the American Chemical Society in 1921 to become President of the newly-created Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association. In this position, he could continue to work to promote the development of the synthetic organic chemical industry in this country (12, 13). 

Typical flux data with two interpromoter spacings (AL) are shown in Figure 28 as a function of the cross-flow rate. The flux Increased by a factor of 3 for the best case. Though Probstein did not plot his data in this way, it is Interesting to note that the empty channel flux has a predictable 0.33 power dependence on tangential velocity. With the turbulence promoters, the slope shifts closer to the 0.7-0.8 power dependence normally observed in turbulent flow. Unfortunately, data are not available in Probstein s paper on the increased pressure drop associated with the turbulence promoters, but it would appear that the flux to power ratio is greatly improved with turbulence promoters. 

Based on existing findings, there are many important hypotheses in pediatric psychopharmacogenetics. Selective serotonin transporter inhibitors have been shown to have efficacy in double-blind studies in children and/ or adolescents in the treatment of autism, major depression, OCD, and anxiety disorders. Given the association of the serotonin transporter promoter variant with SSRI treatment response in adult depression (Smeraldi et ah, 1998), all of the SSRI-responsive phenotypes should be tested for promoter variant influence on response using family-based or population-based controlled association studies. The report of strong 5-HTTLPR allelic effects on SSRI-induced mania (Mundo et ah, 2000) is of special interest given frequent SSRI-induced activation in children.
