Applied universal design research

Jane Chang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Statistics and Operations Research at Bowling Green State University. Her research interests are in optimal experimental design, the design and analysis of microarray experiments, and multiple testing in two-level factorial designs. [Pg.338]

Nonlinear structural analysis for seismic design, NEHRP Seismic Design Technical Brief No. 4, produced by the NEHRP Consultants Joint Venture, a partnership of the Applied Technology Council and the Consortium of Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering, fin- the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, NIST GCR 10-917-5... [Pg.3208]

The authors gratefully acknowledge support for much of the UTDR research reported here from the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/U CRC) for Membrane Applied Science and Technology (MAST) at the University of Colorado and the University of Cincinnati (NSF grants ECD-9103095, EEC-9632722 and EEC-0120823). The authors acknowledge Chengbin Guo of the Research Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Science, who designed and supplied the specialized focused UTDR transducers used in some of this research. [Pg.896]

An agreement of collaboration between Plastr and Tomas Bata University in Zlin (TBU) has been concluded. TBU carries on study programs and builds research capacities among others in the field of polymers, material engineering, environment protection, applied informatics, applied economics, design, advertisement - all could be subjects of collaboration. Plash will be active in influencing education system. [Pg.948]

The symposium was designed to provide an overview of the current status of plutonium chemistry by practitioners in the various areas covered. The authors, drawn from U.S. and foreign universities and national laboratories, were encouraged to include review material to place their subjects in perspective, as well as to suggest what they believe to be productive directions for future investigation. We find it particularly useful that the contributions represent a mixture of fundamental as well as more applied environmental and process chemical research. Although we do not claim that this volume represents all areas of plutonium chemistry that are currently under active investigation, this collection does represent a reasonably broad and balanced view of the field. The contents of the volume should be useful as a reference both for those familiar with actinide chemistry and for those with limited interests who seek an introduction to the literature and current status in an area of plutonium chemistry. [Pg.7]

There are a number of various commercial products designed for DNA/ RNA extraction, but their use may lead to variable results. Based on the evidence that formalin-induced modification of protein is similar to that of nucleic acid modification by formalin (Fig. 3.1),15-19 our research group at the University of Southern California has conducted a serial study of AR based heating protocols for DNA/RNA extraction from FFPE tissues following our experience of the AR principle as applied to IHC on tissue sections heating under the influence of pH.19-21... [Pg.48]

In its first two years, CPRR also constructed and began operating what is potentially a commercial-scale pilot plant facility. To be able to reduce the applied research to practice in a timely manner," says Morrow, "we realized that we had to have a process development and demonstration facility that was significantly larger than you would ordinarily expect to find at a university, or even in industry." He adds that this has allowed them to move along faster toward a commercially viable design. [Pg.42]

Powder injection applies many of the principles of pulmonary delivery of dry powders to the lungs The drug has to be in the form of very small particles, is dispensed from a reservoir, and is delivered as an aerosol i.e., particles are dispersed in a gas. Liquid or dissolved drug can be delivered by precipitation or adsorption onto carrier particles. The big difference with pulmonary delivery is the momentum at which the particles are delivered. Driven by a high-pressure helium gas stream, the particles travel fast enough to penetrate the outer layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. The design of devices to deliver needle-free injection of solids was pioneered by researchers at the University of Oxford who founded PowderJect Pharmaceuticals PLC in 1993 (now PowderMed Ltd.) to develop the only powder-based technology so far. Since that... [Pg.234]

The value of polyphenylene as a molecular wire stems from the relative mobility of some of the electrons in each benzene ring. If an electrical potential is applied at one end of the chain, it initiates the dislocation of those electrons throughout the chain, resulting in the flow of an electrical current. The first functioning molecular wire of this design was made in 1996 hy a group of researchers headed hy James Tour, then at the University of South Carolina, and David Allard and Paul Weiss, at Pennsylvania State University. [Pg.95]
