These three volunteers represented only a fraction of the varieties of experience we observed in our volunteers. Other publications provide additional examples. In their highly scholarly book, Psychedelic Drugs Reconsidered, Lester Grinspoon and James Bakalar provide many other examples of individual personal experiences. Highly literate or artistic individuals often describe elaborate spiritual visions or magical mystery tours (as in the Beatles song, perhaps inspired by such trips). [Pg.58]

To summarize, comorbidities on which a manic syndrome can be superimposed include ADHD, ODD, conduct or pervasive developmental disorders, Tour-ette s syndrome, or medical conditions such as brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, temporal lobe seizures, human immune-deficiency syndrome (HIV), and endocri-nopathies such as hyperthyroidism and Cushing s syndrome (James and Javaloyes, 2001). Organic affective syndrome, a condition given separate designation in DSM I-IIIR, is now subsumed under mood disorder due to a general medical condition in DSM IV. Substance induced mood disorder has a similar due to. . . designation. [Pg.485]

NanoKids.Availableonline.URL http //cohesion.rice.edu/naturalsciences/ nanokids/index.cfm. Accessed May 28, 2009. NanoKids is an educational program headed by James M. Tour, a chemistry professor at Rice University. Geared for young students, the Web site illustrates the principles of nanoscience with clever animations and witty explanations. [Pg.69]

The value of polyphenylene as a molecular wire stems from the relative mobility of some of the electrons in each benzene ring. If an electrical potential is applied at one end of the chain, it initiates the dislocation of those electrons throughout the chain, resulting in the flow of an electrical current. The first functioning molecular wire of this design was made in 1996 hy a group of researchers headed hy James Tour, then at the University of South Carolina, and David Allard and Paul Weiss, at Pennsylvania State University. [Pg.95]
