Applications floor fabrication

The approximately round shape and small size of the suspension beads is useful for some applications such as expandable polystyrene or as an intermediate for further compounding with pigments, other polystyrene beads, etc. Being round, however, they tend to roll, not only causing a safety hazard when spilled on floors but more importantly causing difficulties in some fabricating extruders and molding machines. Except for expandable polystyrene, beads are seldom sold as such but are extruded into pellets. [Pg.87]

Magnesium oxychloride cements are widely used for the fabrication of floors. They find application for this purpose because of their attractive appearance, which resembles marble, and also because of their acoustic and elastic properties and their resistance to the accumulation of static charge. They have also been used for plastering walls, both interior and exterior for exterior walls the cement often includes embedded stone aggregate (Sorrell Armstrong, 1976). However, there have been problems with this latter application, since the base cement has been found to be dimensionally unstable and, in certain circumstances, to release corrosive solutions and show poor weather resistance. [Pg.290]

Industrial, including rope, twine, conveyor belts, carpet backing, tarpaulin, awnings, cable, bristles home textile applications, including floor covering, upholstery fabric, wall covering, blankets apparel, especially sportswear and hosiery... [Pg.328]

As with SMC, applications are limited to high volume because of the capital investment in equipment and tooling. Thermoset compression molders require additional heating and material handling equipment to adapt their process to thermoplastic sheet fabrication. Applications include automotive bumper beams, load floors, radiator supports, battery trays, and package shelves. Chair shells, military containers, material handling pallets, trays, and concrete foaming pans are also produced. [Pg.96]

Industrial applications often require that bulk materials or liquids be weighed in hoppers, silos, tanks, or reactor vessels, referred to collectively as vessels. Because they come in such a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and capacities, scales using these vessels as load receivers are not typically available as standard products. Vessels are usually custom-fabricated to suit a particular application, then mounted on a scale. Some can be mounted on a standard scale such as a bench, portable, or floor scale. More typically, a number of weigh modules are used to support the vessel. This offers the scale designer great flexibility but certain precautions are necessary in order to constmct an accurate scale. Some of the more important factors associated with the design of vessel scales are discussed herein. [Pg.335]

Latex applications include adhesives, fibre binders (such as in paper and textiles), coatings (such as in paints, coated papers, coated fabrics, coated flooring, and coated insulation), dipping-produced goods (such as balloons, bladders, gloves, and tubing), solid foam products (such as for cushioned furniture), and as a constituent in building materials (such as mortars and concrete) [791]. [Pg.297]

Ethylhexanol. Use of 2-ethylhexanol in the manufacture of PVC plasticizers, most notably DOP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate), has historically accounted for over 70 percent of U.S. demand for this alcohol. DOP has been the most widely used general purpose PVC plasticizer for close to half a century and is considered the "workhorse" of the industry. The material is used in a wide variety of PVC resin applications including flooring, wire and cable, packaging and coated fabrics. In the past, DOP has represented the industry cost/ performance standard against which all competing plasticizers were measured. [Pg.89]

Coupons have also been used to estimate dissipation rates. For such use, it is best if the coupons are made of materials representative of honsehold furnishings, flooring or other residential surfaces (i.e. fabrics, carpet, wood and Formica), and they shonld be placed on or near the surfaces they represent. Replicate coupons (e.g. three) shonld be placed at each location for best characterization, and field spikes are particnlarly important. Coupons shonld be exposed pre-application and at several time intervals post-application to provide snfficient measnrements to project residne half-lives . The same measnres to prevent or limit the evaporative losses given above shonld also be exercised in order to assnre that the coupons reflect the residnes remaining on the snrfaces being evalnated at the time of collection. [Pg.103]

Butyl benzyl phthalate is a plasticizer added to polymers to give flexibility and softness. It is used extensively in polyvinyl chloride and in cellulose plastics, polyvinyl acetate, polysulfides, and polyurethane. Also used in flexographic inks for food packaging applications and acrylic coatings, profile extrusions, slush moulding, film and sheeting, coated fabrics, floor and wall coverings, vinyl foams and plastisols for car sealants. [Pg.296]

Asbestos fibers have also been widely used for the fabrication of papers and felts for flooring and roofing products, pipeline wrapping, electrical insulation, etc. Asbestos textiles, comprising yam, thread, cloth, tape, or rope, also found wide application in thermal and electrical insulation, friction products in brake or clutch pads, etc. In recent years, some of these applications have decreased to various extents, although others remain fairly active,... [Pg.354]

Because they are relatively expensive, epoxy polymers have not been used very widely as binders in PC products. Therefore, epoxy PC is used for special applications, in situations in which the higher cost can easily be justified, such as mortar for industrial flooring to provide physical and chemical resistance, skid-resistant overlays (filled with sand, emery, pumice, quartz) in highways, epoxy plaster for exterior walls (e.g., in exposed aggregate panels), and resurfacing material for deteriorated areas (e.g., in flooring). Epoxy PC reinforced with glass, carbon, or boron fibers is used in the fabrication of translucent panels, boat hulls, and automobile bodies [2,6],... [Pg.5]
