Applications and Markets

Similar to the US requirements, there are two regulatory steps to go through before a drug is approved to be marketed in the European Union. These two steps are clinical trial application and marketing authorization application. There are 27 member states in the European Union (as of August 2007) clinical trial applications are approved at the member state level, whereas marketing authorization applications are approved at both the member state or centralized levels.

MYCELX is a proprietary chemical that can be applied to a variety of substrates to remove organic and inorganic compounds from contaminated surface water, groundwater, and wastewater. Applications for 2-ethylhexanol, while numerous and varied, are basically oriented toward the manufacture of plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride. Total U.S. consumption of these alcohols in 1979 was approximately 1.3 billion pounds -730 million pounds of n-butanol, 190 million pounds of isobutanol, and 380 million pounds of 2-ethylhexanol. Three people were involved in decision making during the projecf s first phase one each from research, screening/application and marketing. After the research and selection phase, a second team took over the implementation and promotion screening/application, marketing and promotion. Pre-testing was conducted with selected textile industry customers to fine-tune the product.

The development of new automotive applications and markets has brought interest in extending the physical size and shape limitations of the extrusion honeycomb process. A widespread solution, in terms of application and market volume, could be the recycling of single materials or homogeneous fractions obtained from a separation process of the mixture. In fact, the samples obtained from single homogeneous fractions show a general performance far greater than that of samples produced from mixed plastics. Separation of post-consumer mixed plastics (municipal waste) into four fractions—polyolefins (PO), PS, PVC, and PET—is commonly adequate.
