Anti-free radical

Solid microcapsules using maltodextrins or starch as matrices were incorporated into cosmetic, pharmaceutical, dietetic, and food compositions using the interfacial crosslinking of flavonoids. Such microcapsules prevented discoloration while maintaining both the anti-free radical and antioxidant activities of the flavonoids." ... [Pg.321]

Figure 4.3 Effect of a variety of anti-free-radical interventions on reperfuslon-induced ventricular fibrillation In the Isolated perfused rat heart. Regional Ischaemia was induced by occluding a snare around the left anterior descending coronary artery and, after 10 min, hearts were reperfused by releasing the snare. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) (1 x 10° U/l), catalase (CAT) (1 X 10 U/l), mannitol (Mann) (50 mM), l-methlonlne (Methlon) (10 mM), glutathione (Glutath) (10 iiM) or desferrioxamlne (Deafer) (150 iim) were included throughout the experimental time course (n = 15/group). Redrawn with permission from Bernier et af. (1986). The subject of intense research, nitrocytoprotectors (piracetam, gingko biloba, almitrine/raubasine) are searching for their role in acute phase treatment. In certain countries, available drugs have been used in the functional rehabilitation phase (cognitive benefit). BN 80933 is an anti-free radical and anti-NO synthetase molecule which appears to have a powerful curative effect in animals. [Pg.702]

Vitamin E this protects against anti-free radicals. The tocopheryl acetate used in this cream is one of the most stable derivatives of vitamin E, and forms a reservoir in the skin after penetration... [Pg.18]

In the body, the ester link of procaine is hydrolyzed, yielding p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and N,h/-diethyl-aminoethanol (DEAE), an analog of DMAE. It is PABA (Figure 3.11) that is responsible for the large majority of allergic reactions to procaine it is excreted rapidly by the kidneys. PABA is most often used as a sunscreen, but is sometimes called vitamin B-x , although it is not essential for humans and the body cannot synthesize folate from PABA. According to some authors, the Aslan method relies solely on the combined action of PABA and DEAE/DMAE. It is assumed that the action of PABA is due to its anti-free-radical properties. [Pg.20]

It should be noted that EPS and Easy TCA are both used in conjunction with anti-free radicals that control the post-peel inflammatory reaction. This is not the case with the majority of other peels. My experience is only based on the combination of botulinum toxin and EPS or Easy TCA. Combinations with other peels have not been tested. [Pg.78]

This has an anti-free radical action and protects the solution itself as well as the skin it is applied on. It is an acidifying agent and a buffer. [Pg.112]

This evens out penetration of the ETCA. It is also an acidi-fier and a buffer with anti-free-radical properties. [Pg.112]

Easy TCA does not cause hyperpigmentation when it is applied to the Grenz zone, because of the anti-free-radical, anti-inflammatory and tyrosinase-inhibiting action of the post-peel cream, applied hnmediately after the acid solution. Weekly repetition of Easy TCA is also a contributing factor to avoiding post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. [Pg.367]

This method was used [123] to quantify the anti-free radical activity of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylethyl-4-fonnylmethyl-4-hexenoate (3,4-DHPEA). Oleuropein derivatives from different extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs), have also been studied as anti-oxidants using the following systems a)... [Pg.354]

Condensed tannins are flavan dimers or polymers with C-C bonds between different flavan-3-ol units. An example of this is the green tea extract, a vegetable extract frequently used in cosmetics, whose main active compounds are condensed tannins that reach between 17 and 30% of the dry weight of leaves (Katiyar et at, 1999, 2000). The most important ones are flavan-3-ols (catechins) and their condensed forms like (+)-catechin, (—)-epicatechin, (+)-gallocatechin, ( )-epigallocatechin, ( )-epicatechingallate and epi-gallocatechingallate. This extract is used because of the specific actions exerted by active compounds, which include anti-free radical, anti-metalloproteinase, anti-inflammatory and photo-protective actions (Kim et al, 1999 Ahmad and Mukhtar, 2001). [Pg.357]
