Anti-caries effect

O.P. Lind, J.R. von der Fehr, M. Joost Larsen, i.J. Moller, Anti-caries effect of a 2% Na2P03F-dentifrice in a Danish fluoride area, Commun. Dent. Oral Epidemiol. 4(1976) 7-14. [Pg.373]

There is debate about whether the relatively low level of fluoride is effective in preventing caries. It has been shown to be effective in vitro [41], but in the most detailed study, the conclusion was that it was not, and that there was no advantage in using polyacid-modified composite resins over amalgam in terms of any observable anti-caries effect of the fluoride release [42],... [Pg.80]

Caries inhibition resulting from daily administration of chewable tablets or mouth rinses may be due to incorporation of absorbable fluoride into the developing enamel teeth surfaces. The retention of fluoride following oral rinses [311, 315, 336] or tablet chewing [336] has been followed by analysing the fluoride of the oral expectorates. The anti-caries effect of ionic fluoride might then be evaluated in relation to fluoride retention [311]. Perkins found oral retentions of 41, 20 and 7 per cent of the fluoride dose, respectively, administered as... [Pg.79]

Geen tea Camellia sinensis Reduces cancer, lowers lipid levels, helps prevent dental caries, antimicrobial and anti oxidative effects Contains caffeine (may cause mild stimulant effects such as anxiety, nervousness, heart irregularities, restlessness, insomnia, and digestive irritation) Contains caffeine and should be avoided during pregnancy, by individuals with hypertension, anxiety, eating disorders, insomnia, diabetes, and ulcers. [Pg.660]

The American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Ait (Ericaceae)) was used by North-American Indians to fight urinary tract infections and other bacterial diseases. Proanthocyanidins, present in cranberries as oligomers of catechin and epicatechin, inhibit the docking of bacteria on tissues in vitro an anti-adhesive mechanism of cranberry-proanthocyanidins (Howell et al. 2001). The efficacy of cranberry juice and extracts as a prophylactic agent against recurrent urinary infections is well documented in women (Stothers 2002). The anti-adhesion effect of cranberry-proanthocyandins can also be applied for treatment of other common diseases of bacterial pathogenesis, e.g. Helicobacter py/on-associated gastritis and dental caries/periodontal disease (Nowack 2007). [Pg.71]

It is also very important, if possible, to discontinue or lower the doses of drugs with anticholinergic effects antihistamines, antipsychotics, antidepressants, uro-logic spasmolytics, anti-arrhythmics, drugs for Parkinson s disease and more. Prophylactic treatment against Candida infection, bacteria and caries can also be useful (Mouly et al. 2007). [Pg.53]
