A sound and workable definition of acceptable risk must encompass hazards, risks, probability, severity, and economic considerations. That initiative should be followed by a major effort to have the American National Standard ANSI/ASSE Z590.3— 2011 be accepted as a desi guide. 

On September 1,20011, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the standard ANSI/ASSE Z590.3— 2011.
