Feeding stuffs

Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs... 

Several incidents have occurred because similar names were confused. The famous case involving Nutrimaster (a food additive for animals) and Firemaster (a fire retardant) is w ell known. The two materials were supplied in similar bags. A bag of Firemaster, delivered instead of Nutrimaster, was mixed into animal feeding stuffs, causing an epidemic of illness among the fami animals. Farmers and their families were also affected [3]. 

Chlorella, aquatic plant, grass, hay, spruce twigs and needles, olive leaves, peach leaves, tobacco leaves Bovine muscle, bovine liver, pig kidney, milk powder, cereals, single cell protein, butterfat, fish oil, animal feed-stuffs, textiles...

This technique has been established for many years particularly for water, soil and feeding-stuff analysis, where a large number of analyses are required for quality control or monitoring purposes. A number of applications have been published for food additives including aspartame (Fatibello et al., 1999), citric acid (Prodromidis et al., 1997), chloride, nitrite and nitrate (Ferreira et al., 1996), cyclamates (Cabero et al., 1999), sulphites (Huang et al., 1999 AOAC Int, 2000), and carbonate, sulphite and acetate (Shi et al., 1996). Yebra-Biumm (2000) reviewed the determination of artificial sweeteners (saccharin, aspartame and cyclamate) by flow injection. 

Emilia-Romagna, a region which represents a twentieth of the total land area of Italy, contains 2,300,000 head, a quarter of the national pig population. This population is not distributed uniformally within the region, but is concentrated in the area where Parmesan cheese is produced. Swine rearing in this area is an age-old tradition since it is linked to the production of whey, which has always been used as a feeding stuff. 

Dust from animal houses consists mainly of organic matter (23). The preferred technique for investigating both the material composition of the dust and feed stuff is the WEENDER Analysis Technique (24). Table II shows the composition of dust from pig and hen houses compared to the feed fed. The differences in the protein content between dust and feed support the opinion that an important part of the dust originates from feathers, hairs, and skin cells of the animals.
