Silver, lead, copper(l). and thallium(I) thiocyanates are insoluble and mercuiy(II), bismuth, and tm(II) thiocyanates slightly soluble. All of these, are soluble in excess of soluble (e.g., ammonium) thiocyanate, forming complexes. Iron(III) thiocyanate gives a blood-red solution, used in detecting either Fe(lll) or thiocyanate in solution, and is extracted from water by amyl alcohol. It is not formed in the presence of fluoride, phosphate and other strongly complexing ions,... [Pg.1613]

H. M. Dawson and J. McCrae, D. P. Konowaloff, and W. Gaus also used soln. of various salts of the alkali metals, and of potassium, sodium, cupric, or barium hydroxide in place of water and also copper sulphate, copper chloride, zinc sulphate, and cadmium iodide while M. 8. Sherrill and D. E. Russ examined the effect of ammonium chromate. W. Herz and A. Kurzer examined the distribution of ammonia between water and a mixture of amyl alcohol and chloroform. Observations on the distribution of ammonia between water and chloroform were made by T. S. Moore and T. F. Winmill, G. A. Abbott and W. C. Bray, and J. M. Bell. J. H. Hildebrand gave for the molar fraction N X104 of ammonia at 1 atm. press., and 25°, dissolved by ethyl alcohol, 2300 methyl alcohol, 2730 and water, 3300. [Pg.199]

The poly-(diphenylsiloxane)-diols, HO(Si02O)DH (n = 2,3,4) were obtained by Kipping and Robison (35) by treating diphenylsilanediol with ammonium hydroxide and by Burkhard (13) by hydrolyzing the corresponding a, co-dichlorides in tert-amyl alcohol-toluene solution. Tetra-/>-chlorophenyldisiloxanediol and hexa >-chlorophenyI-1,5-tri-sil-oxanediol were recently isolated by Schott and Berge (61). [Pg.455]

The 10-mlnute Co82 produced by the Ni82(n,p) reaction has been extracted as the thiocyanate into an organic layer of amyl alcohol-ethyl ether (l l) from a weak hydrochloric acid solution saturated with ammonium thiocyanate and then back-extracted with 6 N ammonia solution (156,208). The 5-2-minute W17 produced by a Ta (p,3n) reaction has also been extracted as the thiocyanate of W(lV) Into ethyl acetate (268). [Pg.36]

Ammonium tetrathiocyanatomercurate(II)-copper sulphate test. The faintly acid (sulphuric acid or acetic acid) solution is treated with 0-1 ml 0 25m copper sulphate solution, followed by 2 ml ammonium tetrathiocyanatomercurate(II) reagent. A violet precipitate is obtained. The test is rendered still more sensitive by boiling the mixture for 1 minute, cooling and shaking with a little amyl alcohol the violet precipitate collects at the interface. Iron salts produce a red colouration this disappears when a little alkali fluoride is added. [Pg.274]

An alternative procedure is as follows just acidify a portion with H2S04. Add 1 drop of this solution to a few drops of ZnS04 solution, and introduce a little ammonium tetrathiocyanatomercurate(II) reagent. A violet precipitate confirms the presence of Cu2+ (cf. Section III.10, reaction 12). The precipitate can be rendered clearly visible by adding a little amyl alcohol and shaking it collects in and colours the organic layer. [Pg.426]
