Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Brown, occurs as thin, transparent brown, red-brown, or garnet red scales or granules, or as a brown-yellow powder. It is a complex salt of undetermined structure, composed of iron, ammonia, and citric acid. It is very soluble in water, but is insoluble in alcohol. The pH of a 1 20 aqueous solution is about 5.0 to 8.0. It is deliquescent in air and is affected by light. [Pg.167]

Identification A sample responds to the Identification Tests in the monograph for Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Brown. Assay Not less than 14.5% and not more than 16.0% of iron (Fe). [Pg.169]

Determine as directed for the respective tests in the monograph for Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Brown. [Pg.169]

Ferric Ammonium Citrate — (i) Chemical Designations — Synonyms Ammonium ferric citrate, Ferric ammonium citrate (brown), Ferric ammonium citrate (green) Chemical Formula Mixture of FeCjHj07, (NH4)2HC((Hj07, and water of hydration (ii) Observable Characteristics — Physical State (as shipped) Solid Color Red, green, or brown Odor None (iii)... [Pg.555]

Ferric ammonium citrate [1185-57-5]—A mixture of complex chelates prepared by the iateraction of ferric hydroxide with citric acid ia the presence of ammonia. The chelates occur ia brown and green forms, are dehquescent ia air, and are reducible by light. [Pg.453]

Uses In iron-toning solutions. Fresh ferric ammonium citrate tends to form a layer of mold after a few days. This can be filtered or lifted off. After the first time the mold rarely returns. Notes Both brown and green salts are light-sensitive. Keep well closed and protected from light. [Pg.180]

Dissolve the ingredients separately in water. Mix the ferric ammonium citrate solution and the tartaric acid solution then add the silver nitrate solution while stirring with a nonmetal rod. Add water to make up the complete quantity. Keep in a brown glass bottle, away from light. [Pg.322]

Synonyms Ammoniocitrate of iron, Ammonium citrate, Iron citrate, Soluble ferric citrate. Appearance Clear green crystals. Occurs also as brown scales, but green scales are preferred for photographic purposes. [Pg.180]

Ammonium ferric citrate, brown, soluble ferric citrate Contains about 9% NH, 16.5-18.5% Fe, and about 65% hydrated citric acid. Reddish-brown granules, garnet-red transparent scales, or brownish-yellow powder. Odorless or slight NHj odor saline, ferruginous taste. Very deliquesc. Reduced to ferrous salt by light. Extremely sol in water practically insol in alcohol. Keep well closed and protected from light... [Pg.84]

Ammonium ferric citrate, green. Contains about 7.5% NHj, 14.5-16% Fe, and about 75% hydrated citric acid. Green transparent, deliquesc scales, pearls, granules, or powder. Odorless mild ferruginous taste. More readily reduced to the ferrous salt hy light than the brown form. Very sol in water practically insol in ale. Keep well closed and protected from light. [Pg.84]
