Industrial workers make up the segment of the population that is most vulnerable to chemical injury. To protect them from occupation-related harm, the American Conference of Governmental and Indnstrial Hygienists publishes annually revised threshold limit values (TLVs), guidelines for permissible chemical exposure at the workplace. http //www.acgih.org/Resources/press/HAL.htm... [Pg.202]

Non-enforceable guidelines have also been established for formaldehyde. The American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has established a ceiling limit for occupational exposure (Threshold Limit Value [TLV]) of 0.4 ppm. NIOSH has a recommended exposure limit for occupational exposure (8-hour TWA) of 0.016 ppm, and a 15-minute ceiling limit of 0.1 ppm. [Pg.28]

U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is 35 ppm with a ceiling value of 200 ppm. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set an ambient air quality standard of 9 ppm, averaged over an 8-h period, and 35 ppm for 1 h, not to be exceeded more than once a year. The American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has set a threshold limit value for CO of 25 ppm. ... [Pg.244]

The Threshold Limit Value (TLV) system is that developed and published in the USA by the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), which in spite of its title is a non-governmental organisation. It is a scientific society similar to the British Occupational Hygiene Society. [Pg.386]

Formaldehyde. Acute and chronic inhalation exposure to formaldehyde in humans can result in eye, nose, and throat irritation and respiratory symptoms. Reproductive effects have been reported in women workers exposed to formaldehyde. Limited human studies have reported an association between formaldehyde exposure and lung and nasopharyngeal cancer. The EPA has classified formaldehyde as a Group Bl, probable human carcinogen of medium carcinogenic hazard. The OSHA has set its permissible exposiu-e limit (PEL) at 4.5 mg/m and the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists have set the TLV at 1.5 mg/m (80). [Pg.5523]
